Graduate - AI Software Engineer
Graduate job
•£25,000 - £30,000
The Role
This is not a traditional Software Engineer role. We're looking for a smart, organised, curious graduate developer who is happy working in an environment where things are still being worked out.
You will be a recent graduate and an automation enthusiast, bridging the gap between quick low-code deployment and durable, professional products. You will be responsible for the full automation lifecycle, transforming raw processes into streamlined, intelligent workflows. If you are passionate about core JavaScript, eager to adapt to new frameworks, and thrive on solving complex integration challenges, this is your opportunity to build foundational technology for multiple AI ventures.
Your job will be to take the founder's ideas and bring them to life. You must want to learn.
AI tools are embedded in everything we do and you'll have help and training to get fluent in them fast.
The role is approximately 90% working from your home in the UK, with 10% requirements to meet in person, with prior planning. Working remotely (to us) means that you will work from a pre-agreed location which will be named in your contract, usually your home.
Core Responsibilities
- Extend Low-Code Platforms: Utilise your core JavaScript/TypeScript skills to write custom code nodes within n8n, implementing advanced business logic and handling complex data transformations (JSON, APIs) that go beyond standard features.
- Orchestrate Applied AI Solutions: Work hands-on to integrate LLMs (like ChatGPT and Claude) and other generative AI tools into business workflows, using prompt engineering to drive specific, high-value product outcomes.
- Improve Existing Systems: Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing functionality and harden prototypes, focusing on performance optimization and ensuring applications can gracefully scale.
Technical Skills
- Core JavaScript/TypeScript Proficiency: Strong foundational knowledge of the language is essential for custom coding and logic implementation.
- Automation Expertise: Proven experience designing and maintaining workflows using low-code platforms (n8n or others) or manually-coded automation scripts, demonstrating deep understanding of integration logic.
- Integration Stack: Practical understanding of APIs, webhooks, JSON data handling, and relational databases (PostgreSQL, Supabase is a plus).
- Framework Agnosticism: Readiness and foundational skills to quickly learn and utilize relevant backend (e.g., NestJS) and frontend (e.g., React) frameworks for full-stack system integration.
Personal Strengths
- Creativity & Problem-Solving: The ability to move ideas from conceptualisation to functional systems and systematically resolve complex technical issues.
- Teamwork Resolution: A focus on shared learning, open communication, and efficiently resolving conflicts or integration challenges within a fast-paced team.
- Growth Mindset: A strong desire to learn rapidly and adapt to new technologies, embracing the high-velocity, pioneering spirit of an AI startup.
- Detail Orientation: The organisational habit required to keep track of details and project requirements while navigating a high-velocity environment.
Must-haves
- Ruthless appetite to continuously learn and iterate
- Bias for action, not perfection
- Familiarity with GDPR and data protection principles
- Curious and proactive, you figure things out before being asked
- Experience working remotely, comfortable to work across time zones (+/- 2 hours)
Bonus Points
- AI and/or automation projects that you can demonstrate for us
- Proximity to London, Reading or a comfortable commutable distance would be ideal.
Why This Role Is Special
You'll work directly with the founder and small team, building multiple high-leverage, AI-centric ventures across legal, fintech, and consumer domains. You'll gain exposure to modern automation stacks, learn how startups are actually built, and play a critical part in keeping the machine running.
What we offer
- £25,000 starting salary
- Discretionary bonus
- High trust, remote first working environment
- Unique opportunity to help build ventures from the ground up
- Access to the latest AI tools and technologies with on-the-job training
- Be an integral part of the founding team that values relationships, knowledge sharing, innovation, experimentation and execution.
Technology
We use locally hosted AI functionality to help us filter and process applications more efficiently, but decisions are reviewed by a human. If the technology flags or filters an application incorrectly, one of our team will step in to review and make the final call.
We may close this advertisement early if we are overwhelmed with applications. We will endeavour to respond to everyone, however we acknowledge this may not always be possible. We very much appreciate the time you have spent on your application and your interest in working with us.
Equal Opportunities
We value diversity and inclusion. We’re committed to fair, unbiased hiring and creating an environment where everyone can do their best work.
