Graduate Architect
Job Introduction
The Team
The Design and Compliance team works across the Council's entire building estate, delivering a diverse range of projects – from small-scale community facilities such as public conveniences, through to some of the city's most significant and historic buildings, including City Hall.
A major focus of our current programme is within Education, where we deliver projects for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role offers exceptional variety, working across new-build, refurbishment and temporary accommodation, designing and delivering thoughtful, practical and inclusive solutions that respond directly to user needs and project challenges.
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Architect to join its busy Design and Compliance team.
This role is ideal for a Part 2-qualified architect looking to gain high-quality professional experience while working on projects that have real social value. You'll be supported by experienced architects and built-environment professionals as you develop the skills, judgement and confidence required to progress towards RIBA Part 3 / ARB registration.
We are seeking a Graduate Architect to join its Built Environment team and play a key role in the delivery of high-quality building projects across the district.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, providing technical design expertise and project delivery support from feasibility through to completion. You will work closely with architects, engineers, consultants and contractors, helping to shape safe, sustainable and well-designed buildings that serve our communities.
This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city.
With appropriate supervision and mentoring, you will:
- Assist in delivering architectural services from feasibility through to completion
- Support the development of design proposals, technical drawings and specifications
- Help prepare regulatory applications and tender documentation
- Work with consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders as part of multi-disciplinary teams
- Attend site inspections, design team meetings and client meetings
- Develop your understanding of procurement, contract administration and project management
- Build professional competence while working towards RIBA Part 3
Progression through the role will be supported through structured performance reviews, professional training and exam success.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic graduate who is keen to learn, contribute and grow.
Qualifications Required
- A recognised undergraduate and postgraduate qualification in Architecture (RIBA Part 1 and Part 2 / ARB-prescribed)
- Some relevant construction or architectural practice experience
- A good understanding of construction principles and design coordination
- Strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills
- A commitment to professional development and achieving Part 3 qualification
Employee Offer
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and able to thrive. If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process to support your application, please let us know, and we will work with you to meet your needs.
