A Future with purpose

At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

Our Climate and Sustainability Services portfolio delivers specialist advisory services that address society's need to respond to the climate emergency. We help our clients to avoid and reduce carbon emissions, manage climate risk and enhance the resilience of their business systems and assets as well as the communities and natural environments they operate in.

Right now, we're looking for graduate consultants to join our Land Quality and Contamination team of bright and motivated professionals. Our consultants offer a multidisciplinary service aimed at supporting sustainable development, managing risk, gaining regulatory approvals, developing sustainable remediation solutions, cleaning up contamination, maintaining soil quality, developing policy, creative design and implementation, supporting stakeholder engagement and controlling costs.

Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing environmental and historical information and preparing desk studies.
  • Supporting due diligence and environment assessment
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of ground investigations, groundwater and ground gas monitoring and site reconnaissance visits.
  • Analysis of data and subsequent qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.
  • Preparation of clear and concise reports.
  • Developing risk management strategies
  • Planning your workload so that you can deliver on time or ahead of target.
  • You will contribute to both statutory and non-statutory impact assessments, technical reports, environmental strategies, corporate reporting and help prepare documents for submission within the planning system.

Is this role right for you?

We're looking for people who are curious and ready to evolve how they think and work. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. If you can share your knowledge and ideas and encourage others to do the same; whilst having a desire to deliver excellent services for clients we'd like to hear from you.

We encourage our Graduate Consultants to demonstrate drive and motivation, a thorough understanding of our sector, and a desire to effectively deliver an excellent technical service to our clients. With a busy, diverse team, we seek individuals who can work flexibly and respond to the needs of our clients. As such, we are looking for the following general qualifications, skills, and attributes in you:

  • Minimum 2.1 Bachelor's degree or higher degree in contaminated land; environmental studies, chemistry, geology, geography, hydrogeology, or civil, environmental, or chemical engineering
  • Student or graduate member of Geological Society, CIWEM, IEMA IES, or similar professional body
  • Basic and developing understanding of contaminated land, pollution, environmental engineering or brownfield development
  • Adaptability and versatility to work across and with many environmental, engineering and design disciplines and changing priorities
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and a creative approach to problem solving
  • The aptitude to work on your own initiative
  • Recognise the importance of client care including internal Arup clients, and your role in contributing towards it
  • Some understanding of sustainability, carbon and climate change
  • Experience of GIS software (preferably ArcGIS) and CAD (desirable)
  • Completed dissertation on contaminated land or pollution related topic (desirable)
  • Work experience within environmental consultancy or with site investigation works (desirable)

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2025.
