Many of our employees are also our customers, so we truly take pride in what we do! Employing people from across our communities and beyond, Severn Trent is an exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be curious, can be ‘Wonderfully You,’ and where you can truly make an impact on our environment, now and for future generations.
LET’S TELL YOU MORE
Our Data Analyst-Technology Graduate Programme offers the opportunity to belong to a new team that is revolutionising the way data is treated and used by Severn Trent Water. Along with the opportunity to train as a Data Analyst with transferable skills.
A day in the life of a Technology Leadership Graduate at Severn Trent involves a wide variety of tasks, focusing on:
- Helping to design and deliver the new Data Framework
- Conducting data flow reviews to identify areas of excellence and opportunities for improvement
- Performing data-related incident and risk analysis
- Carrying out AI governance activities and conducting solution analysis on prospective AI tools
- Managing some business-as-usual activities, including SARs (Subject Access Requests), audits, and fielding business issues and queries relating to data
- Working with colleagues across Severn Trent to establish data-related needs and, where appropriate, providing insightful and accurate information
- Producing data dashboards and reports to help us make the complex simple
- Ensuring data is being used ethically and in line with relevant legislation (e.g., GDPR)
- Practicing self-learning to stay updated with technological developments and take responsibility for personal professional development
In addition to daily tasks, there are plenty of opportunities to expand your network through social events and engagement activities across the department. This is vital for successful collaboration with cross-functional teams within technology.
You’ll spend time supporting projects which include designing a new Data Management Framework from scratch. You will be assigned a work package from this program and have the opportunity to see it through from conception to delivery as a new Severn Trent Water (STW) Business-As-Usual process. There are likely to be other targeted projects too, based on continuous improvements we need to make to either internal team processes or wider business processes related to data and potentially AI.
The aim of the program is to bring you up to a level where you can be reasonably described as a Data Analyst, including some relevant technical training (e.g., Python, SQL).
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
You’ll gain strong business and commercial acumen, working alongside the Office of Data, which serves the Chief Data Officer. This department is responsible for ensuring Severn Trent makes the best use of its data and that the data is well-governed. It is a small team of 9 dedicated data professionals, including qualified Data Analysts who work closely with colleagues in Information Security, Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Intelligence, and elsewhere, to support the availability and usability of data across the organization.
