Job Introduction

Think You Can Handle Getting Your Boots Dirty?

Forget the typical graduate role where you’re handed a laptop, shown your desk and told to “get stuck in”. Here, getting stuck in might actually mean getting stuck in the mud.

We’re looking for a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer who’s curious about what’s going on beneath our feet, enjoys being out and about, and wants to learn by doing. You’ll get your hands dirty, see some of the UK, work on real projects and start building the technical skills to become a brilliant engineer.

About Us

We’re Lucion Ground Engineering, and we investigate what lies beneath the surface for clients across construction, civil engineering, housing and environmental sectors. We’ve been doing this in one form or another since 1936, so we know a thing or two about ground engineering. We combine that experience with modern thinking, practical solutions and a healthy appreciation for the fact that the ground rarely does exactly what you expect it to.

Your Responsibilities

One day you could be beside a drilling rig. The next, you might be logging samples in the office or helping turn site data into an engineering report. Your day-to-day could include:

  • Supervising drilling rigs and trial pits
  • Logging soil and rock samples
  • Getting involved in in-situ testing
  • Collecting data for geotechnical and environmental assessments
  • Helping produce factual and interpretative reports
  • Working with contractors, clients and colleagues across the business

It’s a proper mix of boots-on-the-ground experience and technical engineering — because you need both.

What Makes You a Good Fit?

You don’t need to know everything. You’re a graduate, after all. What we really want is someone who is curious, practical and keen to learn. You’ll need:

  • A degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Earth Sciences or something similar
  • An interest in ground investigation and outdoor work
  • A willingness to travel and work in whatever weather the British skies throw at you
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • A full UK driving licence

Bonus points for curiosity, resilience and not being emotionally attached to keeping your shoes clean.

What Do You Get?

We’re serious about helping you build a career — even if we’re not always serious about keeping your boots clean.

  • Structured training and mentoring
  • Hands-on experience across a wide range of UK projects
  • Clear opportunities to progress
  • Competitive salary and full benefits package
  • Holiday allowance and pension
  • Support for professional development
  • A team that will actually help you learn, rather than leaving you to Google everything

Sound Like Your Kind of Groundwork?

If you want a graduate role where no two days are quite the same, where you can get outside, solve problems, travel and learn from experienced engineers, this could be the place to start.

Bring your curiosity. We’ll bring the hard hat.
