Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology are critical parts of our geoscience business stream and are core technical competency areas for our clients.
Role Purpose
The role involves delivering geotechnical engineering analyses, consultancy, and marine warranty surveying projects, as well as assisting with proposal writing, group marketing, and technical development in accordance with the quality management system. The geotechnical engineer in this role will have the opportunity to work on a suite of offshore geotechnical projects with an emphasis on renewable energy developments. We are looking for a graduate engineer or an engineer with some experience in geotechnical engineering to join our highly motivated team of geoscience experts, with abundant training and knowledge transfer opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of geoscience consultancy projects to meet quality and budget expectations, mentored by senior members of the geoscience business.
- Provide multi-disciplinary support and rotation between geoscience business streams.
- Provide ground characterization and ground risk management support to a range of projects, including engineering geological desktop studies, integrated ground models, Geotechnical Interpretative Reports, Cable Burial Risk Assessments, and Cable Burial Assessments.
- Participate in geotechnical interpretative reporting and the derivation of design soil parameters.
- Assist in the design and management of laboratory testing campaigns.
- Participate in the creation of integrated ground models.
- Support the origination of detailed technical reports, supported by senior team members.
- Provide support in the scoping, specification, and management of offshore surveys.
- Assess geohazard risks for various offshore projects.
- Perform foundation design and assessment for different infrastructures including Jack-ups, fixed and floating wind turbine generators.
- Under guidance, perform advanced numerical modelling using the Finite Element Method.
- Prepare reports and document reviews.
- Provide advice and support to colleagues and attend client sites to participate in meetings.
- Assist in projects to improve our capability and competitiveness, including assisting in the improvement and upkeep of engineering software and analysis tools.
- Support the marketing of Global Maritime.
- Assist in the delivery of services across Global Maritime’s business streams as workload demands.
Specific Skills, Knowledge And Experience Required
- A degree in Civil Engineering or Geosciences, with Geotechnical or Engineering Geology related studies.
- Fundamental understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
- Postgraduate degrees and work experience in offshore geotechnical engineering or engineering geology are an advantage.
- Working ability in a range of engineering or geoscience analysis tools.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Willingness to work offshore in the role of Offshore Client Representative is desirable.
