Guidance on Using AI Tools in Application Process

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own. We urge you to show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically. It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers. Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements. Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.

Legal Requirements to Work in the United Kingdom

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is granted by the UK Visa and Immigration Service.

About the Role in Paediatric Audiology

The Children's Hearing service at NHS Lothian is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the paediatric audiology team in a role where you will support children and their families. This is an ideal opportunity to develop your paediatric skills with a supportive team.

The post involves working alongside existing paediatric audiologists and assistant staff at a purpose-built Children's Hospital in the historic city of Edinburgh. If you are a new graduate, we offer a strong supportive start to your paediatric audiology career, where you can consolidate your academic learning in a friendly, progressive, and inclusive team.

Clinical Duties and Training

The post holder will support the service clinically by carrying out paediatric diagnostic hearing assessments in the ENT clinic and with children over 4 years of age. Training opportunities to develop further skills will be offered to enthusiastic paediatric-focused team members.

Clinical duties will include delivering high levels of care to the service’s patients via face-to-face appointments at The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People and Lauriston Hospital.

Service Improvements and Quality

Service improvement and development are central to the vision for advancing paediatric audiology service provision at NHS Lothian. Other services that the team undertakes include diagnostic testing of children aged 0-18 years, such as ABR, ASSR, Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Performance Audiometry, Pure Tone Audiometry, TEAOE testing, Otoscopy, and Tympanometry.

We also undertake the fitting of hearing aids for all ages and participate in the national microtia service, which involves the fitting of implantable devices. Service improvement duties involve contributions to SOPs, patient information audit, and quality improvement, with a vision for quality improvement strongly advised.

Working Hours

The service runs clinics Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, with the expectation of working 36 hours between these times depending on service delivery.

PVG Scheme Membership Required

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e., child and/or adult), an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in the post.
