The Role

As a Paralegal in our Employment department, you'll support solicitors and the department manager by assisting with a wide range of employment law matters. This is a varied and fast paced role where you'll deal with client enquiries, help progress cases, and play an important part in delivering a high quality service.

You'll be involved in advisory work, case preparation, legal drafting, client contact, and supporting colleagues throughout ongoing matters. With clear supervision, structured processes, and excellent team support, this role offers a strong pathway for progression within employment law. A significant element of your role will be by telephone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising clients (mainly by telephone) on general employment law enquiries and helping convert enquiries into new work for the team.
  • Assisting with case management: taking instructions, drafting pleadings, preparing instructions to counsel and arranging conferences.
  • Preparing letters of claim, witness statements, funding documents and hearing bundles.
  • Attending conferences and hearings where required.
  • Undertaking legal research.
  • Requesting, reviewing and returning relevant documents.
  • Managing work in progress and ensuring accurate recording of chargeable and non-chargeable hours under supervision.
  • Carrying out administrative tasks including filing, photocopying, and bundle preparation.
  • Ensuring full compliance with client care, complaints procedures, and regulatory obligations.

About You

We welcome applicants with a wide range of strengths, thinking styles and lived experiences. We're happy to discuss any workplace adjustments or support that would help you perform at your best, including communication preferences, assistive tools, or environmental changes.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Communicate confidently on the phone whether in inbound or outbound calls.
  • Adapt to different tasks and situations.
  • Work independently and collaboratively.
  • Stay calm and focused during busy periods.
  • Handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially.
  • Communicate in a friendly, respectful, and approachable way.
  • Show a genuine interest in employment law and in developing a long term career within this area.

Essential

You will need:

  • Law degree at 2:1 or above.
  • 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (grade C / 4 or above).
  • Experience of dealing with customers/clients over the phone.
  • Confidence using computers and the ability to learn new systems with training.
  • An interest and understanding of UK employment law.
  • Clear communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Research skills and the ability to break down information logically.
  • Organisational and time management approaches that help you keep on top of tasks.
  • The ability to meet deadlines with appropriate support.
  • The ability to manage periods of interruption.

Desirable

It's helpful, but not essential, if you also have:

  • Legal Practice Course (LPC) qualification.
  • Study or work-based experience in employment law.
  • Familiarity with employment litigation processes.
  • Experience using case management systems.
  • An understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • Awareness of client care and complaints procedures.

We also look for individuals who embody our brand values: approachable, flexible, inclusive, resilient, and supportive.
