Location: Precision Micro, Vantage Way, Birmingham, UK, B24 9GZ
Precision Micro is a global specialist in chemical etching, supplying high-precision metal components to demanding sectors including medical devices, aerospace, space, satellite systems, automotive, electronics, and industrial manufacturing. Our components are used in mission-critical and high-performance applications where precision, reliability, and consistency are essential.
We work with a range of globally recognised customers, including ASML, Amazon, Bosch, BorgWarner, and Blue Origin, supporting innovative technologies from advanced semiconductor manufacturing through to next-generation space and satellite platforms.
Precision Micro is also highly environmentally focused, enabling many next-generation low-carbon and sustainable technologies. We supply precision components for applications such as carbon capture, hydrogen production and distribution, electrification, and energy-efficient systems, helping our customers develop solutions that support a more sustainable future.
We are seeking a Graduate Quality Engineer to join our team. This role offers a structured development pathway, beginning with a hands-on placement within production and inspection, before progressing into a fully-fledged Quality Engineering role.
The Role
This is not a purely office-based graduate role. For the first 6 months, you will work closely with Production and Inspection teams to develop a deep understanding of:
-
Chemical etching processes and manufacturing constraints
-
Measurement techniques, inspection methods, and equipment
-
Product characteristics, tolerances, and defect modes
-
Real-world quality challenges in a changeable NPI and production environment
During this initial period, you will work a rotating shift pattern:
-
Week 1: 06:00 – 14:15 (AM shift)
-
Week 2: 14:00 – 22:15 (PM shift)
A shift allowance will be provided during this period.
This shift-based placement is designed to give full exposure to manufacturing operations across the working day.
Following this initial period, you will utilise knowledge gained to transition into a Graduate Quality Engineer role, supporting activities such as:
-
Root cause analysis and corrective action (RCA / CAPA)
-
Process capability analysis and continuous improvement
-
Customer and internal quality issue resolution
-
Development of inspection standards and control plans
-
Support for audits, compliance, and quality systems
You will be supported through a structured development plan, including progression towards recognised UK quality qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
-
Learn and apply inspection techniques including visual inspection, dimensional measurement, and use of metrology equipment
-
Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerance requirements
-
Support the investigation of quality issues, contributing to and creating root cause analysis and corrective actions
-
Collect, analyse, and interpret quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
-
Assist in the development of limit samples, inspection standards, and quality documentation
-
Work closely with Production, Engineering, and NPI teams to resolve quality challenges
-
Participate in process reviews and continuous improvement activities
-
Research, select, and deploy state-of-the-art vision systems and measurement technologies to support advanced inspection capabilities
-
Operate in full compliance with company Health & Safety standards, supporting safe working practices in both production and inspection environments
About You
This role is ideal for a self-motivated, confident, and ambitious graduate who is keen to build a career in Quality Engineering through hands-on experience in manufacturing.
You will ideally have:
-
A First-class honours degree (desirable)
-
A degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is desirable but not essential
-
Excellent mathematics and numeracy skills, with a minimum of Grade 8 (or equivalent) at GCSE Mathematics
-
A high level of attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem solving
-
An interest in data analysis, measurement, and continuous improvement
-
Great communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
-
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
-
Adaptability and willingness to work rotating shifts
-
A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in quality, manufacturing, or engineering
What We Offer
-
A structured graduate pathway into Quality Engineering
-
Hands-on experience in manufacturing and inspection environments
-
Support towards recognised UK quality qualifications (e.g. CQI or equivalent)
-
Exposure to high-specification customer applications and regulated industries
-
A progressive, varied working environment
-
Competitive graduate salary and benefits package, including shift allowance during initial training period
-
Clear opportunities for progression within Quality and Engineering functions
How to Apply
If you are looking to build a career in Quality Engineering and want to gain real-world experience in a technically challenging and changeable manufacturing environment, we would be pleased to hear from you.
Please submit your CV along with a short covering statement outlining your interest in the role and Precision Micro.
Please note: No applications or speculative CVs from recruitment agencies will be accepted for this role.
