Description
Please note that Bath Spa Graduate Scheme roles are only open to former Bath Spa students who graduated in 2025 or who will be graduating in 2026.
Please read the provided attachment "Bath Spa Graduate Scheme 2026 Information Sheet" for further information about the scheme.
As of April 2024, there has been a change in the UK’s sponsorship threshold, and regrettably this role does not meet those requirements for sponsorship.
About the Role
This is a wide-reaching role that covers most activities at the university as we aim to instil sustainable principles. Therefore, the role will consist of many different responsibilities where each day will be different. The successful candidate will work on awareness and engagement campaigns within the university and beyond, conduct research and analysis of our data to investigate new schemes and initiatives to implement, and contribute to policy analysis. The candidate will also have the freedom to bring new projects to the table, and to conduct research according to their interests or where this is deemed necessary by the team.
Day-to-day tasks may include reading sector guidance, investigating potential schemes through research, and engaging with our broader community – whether that’s within our university, regionally, or nationally. Once new ideas have been formed and researched, there may need to be a process to engage with key players at BSU and gain buy-in for implementation. This may include preparing reports, presenting to team members, and supporting the manager to bring ideas to BSU leadership. The team also deals with large amounts of data, covering all energy, water, and heat use across all buildings and sites in several cities. Understanding this data and its trends is crucial for us to identify ‘hotspots’ to tackle, so the successful candidate will have access to this data to investigate any issues. It may also be that day-to-day tasks include many engagement campaigns, both online and in-person, with creative and interactive events and sessions for our community. The role will be shaped by the interests of the successful candidate.
This is an 18-month full-time fixed-term role.
About You
The successful candidate will be confident in using the Microsoft Office suite, including Teams. They will have a willingness to learn basic data analysis, as well as an enthusiasm for connecting with people – whether it be students, staff, or our wider community. They will be passionate about sustainability, climate change, environmental stewardship, and responsible resource use, and willing to use this passion to identify gaps in our strategy and contribute to addressing areas we’re lacking in.
The candidate should demonstrate an understanding of sustainability as a concept and how to implement it. They should have the ability to relate experience to the role in a relevant way, with evidence of research into sustainability issues that might be facing BSU. A relevant degree and past experience in sustainability-related work/learning/extracurriculars such as biodiversity, climate change, behavior change, awareness campaigns, or research projects are advantageous. Confidence with Office Suite, Excel, and data analysis is required.
