Job Summary
Are you a motivated graduate looking to launch a career in education? We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable Graduate Teacher of Business to join our high-performing, friendly, and supportive department.
This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on teaching experience in a prestigious boarding school environment without needing a prior teaching qualification. Whether you are looking for a one-year foundational experience or a long-term career in pedagogy, we provide the mentorship and resources to help you succeed.
Why Join Our Department?
You will be joining a collaborative team of nine specialist teachers dedicated to academic excellence and student growth.
- Proven Success: Our results are exceptional; over the last five years, 77% of A Level Business students attained A-B\*.
- Innovation: We have recently expanded our curriculum to include the Pearson BTEC Nationals, a popular and growing stream within the school.
- Wealth of Resources: You won’t be starting from scratch. We have a robust library of teaching and extension materials ready for you to use and adapt.
- Beyond the Classroom: We believe in real-world application, recently taking BTEC students to London to engage with global brands and marketing experts.
The Role
As a Graduate Teacher, you will balance classroom instruction with professional development. Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching & Planning: Delivering approximately 0.6 of a full-time teaching load, preparing engaging lessons based on departmental programmes of study.
- Student Support: Providing feedback through written reports, prep (homework) setting, and hosting drop-in clinics for extra student help.
- Collaboration: Participating in weekly department meetings to share best practices and discuss student progress.
- Boarding School Life: Fully immersing yourself in our community, including acting as a Tutor in a Boarding House (usually one evening duty per week) and contributing to our vibrant co-curricular programme.
Professional Development: Your Springboard
We view this position as the first step in your professional journey. We offer:
- Mentorship: You will be paired with an internal mentor and supported by our Director of Professional Development.
- Pedagogical Growth: Access to ‘Teach Meets’—dynamic sessions designed to spark innovation and share the latest teaching strategies.
- Supportive Observations: Regular, constructive feedback to build your confidence and refine your classroom management.
- Career Progression: This role has a proven track record; many of our graduates extend their stay for a second year or transition into permanent teaching roles.
About You
We are looking for a candidate who is:
- Flexible and Innovative: Ready to bring fresh ideas to the classroom.
- A Team Player: Eager to contribute to a collaborative staff room.
- Highly Organised: Able to manage data protection requirements and administrative deadlines effectively.
- Passionate: Enthusiastic about Business and committed to helping students fulfill their potential.
Cranleigh offers a supportive community environment and also a wide range of benefits.
To apply, please follow the application instructions provided. Candidates are requested to submit a brief letter of application (no more than one side of A4), and as soon as possible and no later than 9:00 am 16/03/2026. Applications are considered as they are received and therefore the vacancy may close sooner than advertised.
