Join Howden Re's Actuarial Summer Internship Programme and discover how actuaries help businesses understand risk, make informed decisions and prepare for an unpredictable future. Working at the centre of mathematics, data analysis and commercial strategy, you'll gain experience in both insurance and reinsurance.
The 10-week programme is designed to give you meaningful exposure to the world of actuarial science, while helping you develop the technical knowledge, professional skills and confidence to kick start your career.
Better still, our programme offers a direct pathway into our Autumn 2028 graduate roles, subject to business needs and individual performance.
What you’ll be doing?
You will begin with a structured induction before joining the Actuarial team to work alongside experienced specialists on real client projects.

Analyse large datasets to uncover meaningful insights.

Learn how (re)insurance works and how risk is priced, transferredand managed.

Support the development of actuarial models and simulations.
-
Help prepare client-ready presentations and reports.
-
Attend client meetings and gain exposure to the full actuarial lifecycle.

Contribute to global business development projects, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Who are we looking for?
No insurance experience is needed; we’ll teach you everything you need to know!
You'll:

Be in your penultimate year of study from a numerate degree background, such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Economicsor related discipline.

Have achieved an A grade or above in A-level Mathematics or equivalent.
-
Have a genuine interest in (re)insurance, actuarial scienceand risk.
-
Enjoy analysing information and solving complex problems.
-
Be able to get your thoughts and ideas across clearly and translate complex information for non-technical audiences.
-
Be eager to learn, take initiative and contribute to a team.
-
Experience with programming is beneficial but not essential, such as Python, R and VBA.
To be eligible for our programme, you must have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.

Assessment centre:Our final stage is an in-person assessment centre at one of our offices. You'll take part in some fun group activities and meet our team in a relaxed setting. This day is all about getting to know you better and for you to see what it's like to be part of Howden and experience our culture. We'll cover all your travel costs for this day, because where you are now, shouldn’t hold back your future!
