The Opportunity
On this year long Industrial Placement you'll work alongside skilled professionals and from day one you will be working on real life meaningful projects - adding value to clients, while exploring challenges with curiosity and creativity.
You'll learn from others and begin creating your professional network ready for when you graduate. There are regular learning sessions with our leadership team, opportunities for site visits to local projects and all kinds of social events that will support your learning and development.
Our aim is to welcome as many students back into our other programmes, be that another internship or potential graduate position. This placement is the stepping-stone to your future.
Arup Engineering teams thrive on the diversity of our work. Projects undertaken by our Bristol Energy team include energy advisory work in fixed offshore wind, floating offshore wind, tidal and hydrogen projects, alongside structural engineering and geotechnical analysis for offshore wind foundation, substation and artificial nesting structure design.
We often play a key role in large scale multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. Our teams are involved in work throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept stage through to detailed design and construction, for a wide range of both public and private sector Clients.
Joining Arup is an excellent opportunity for an Intern Engineer during the course of their degree to gain experience across a diverse range of projects and sectors. Energy, collaboration, and effective communication is fundamental to success as our Engineering teams are often at the core of these projects acting as integrators or facilitators, working closely with many internal specialists and external bodies from clients and contractors to statutory approval organisations.
Our Engineering teams undertake a wide range of renewable energy related projects. You will be responsible for producing design reports, drawings and calculations, specifications, as well as Feasibility Studies and Business Cases.
You will be working with a broad range of Clients such as energy companies, offshore renewable developers, research institutes and public sector bodies. You will also have the opportunity to meet with Clients and Stakeholders, collaborating with others, both within Arup and external to Arup.
Typical day to day tasks may include but are not limited to, working with a diverse range of Arup colleagues in a range of specialisms such as site development, sustainability and environmental planning; working with collaborators such as environmental specialists and planners; meeting with clients and other stakeholders; developing and appraising options and supporting the production of business cases; undertaking feasibility studies and preparing technical reports; creating digital solutions to manipulate, analyse and report on large and complex datasets; carrying out assessment, analysis and design; and preparing specifications. In delivering our work our engineering teams use a variety of design tools and software such as Orcaflex, Python, LS-DYNA, GIS, AutoCAD in addition to internally developed design packages.

Do you fit the below criteria:
- We are looking for candidates who are working towards a bachelor's or master's level degree in a relevant Engineering Degree. This could include Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering or similar.
- Have a willingness to learn new skills and a desire to deliver high quality work for a range of Clients.
- A good communicator who thrives on working either on your own or in a team environment.
- Have a passion for creating a sustainable future for all and Shaping a Better World.
You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2025 in the Arup Bristol Office.
