Role description

Here at Envisics, we are an internationally based automotive technology company with an ambitious goal to re-define and revolutionize the next generation of in-vehicle experience with the development of an industry leading Augmented Reality Head Up Display.

Using the innovative technology of phase-only holography, we are making this a reality!

We’ve already assembled some of the world’s top scientists & engineers from worldwide renowned companies and due to our success and growth, Envisics is now looking to open the doors to entry-level talent, in the form of three industrial placements. Industrial placements last for 1 year and are for undergraduate students.

Summary of Role

  • The successful candidate will work within the R&D team developing next-generation holographic display technologies which make a true 3D image appear to float in front of your eyes. There’s no need to wear glasses and this is real, no longer science fiction!
  • The candidate will carry out experimental lab work to measure the performance of new holographic display prototypes and their subsystems.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to work with world experts who are producing a new display technology which will bring true holographic displays into widespread use for the first time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate performance of different display designs and optimize prototype configurations to deliver the best image quality, including work on optical benches and with fully built prototypes.
  • Use data analysis and simulations to relate the measured performance to the optical design and help to set the direction for further design improvements.
  • Depending on the candidate’s strengths there may be opportunities to work on processes for fabrication and characterization of original optical components which enable 3D holographic displays, and to optimize 3D image content for better user experience.
  • Work closely with members of a fast-paced multidisciplinary research team of physicists and electronics, software and mechanical engineers to learn, share results, and help us move towards our goal quickly.

Minimum Requirements

  • Studying physics or a related engineering subject at undergraduate level with excellent academic results and a passion to apply knowledge and skills from these studies to contribute to the development of a ground-breaking display technology.
  • Excellent knowledge of optics, optical devices, and principles of diffraction.
  • Experience of laboratory work, preferably in optics or electronics, good data logging, analysis (experience in Python, MATLAB or advanced Excel desirable) and reporting skills.
  • Confidence to work independently (after suitable guidance) and also collaboratively in a close team environment.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills in report writing, presentations, and small team meeting environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft tools: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
