The Risk and Compliance Function plays a vital role in ensuring PIC operates within legal, ethical and regulatory boundaries while identifying and managing the risks and opportunities that could impact the achievement of our corporate objectives. Acting as the second line of defence, the Risk team supports the business by establishing risk frameworks and policies, monitoring compliance, conducting risk assessments, and providing expert advice to protect PIC's financial strength and reputation.

The Risk and Compliance teams work closely with colleagues across all PIC departments and are responsible for ensuring effective risk governance across PIC's committee structure. This role offers exposure to the full breadth of PIC's activities and how risk management supports the payment of pensions to current and future policyholders.

About the Internship Programme

This internship is part of PIC's Early Careers Programme and offers 8 weeks of on-the-job experience within the Risk & Compliance function. As an intern, you'll work on innovative projects, develop valuable skills, and be part of a collaborative and supportive culture that fosters professional growth and development. The internship is fully office-based (5 days a week in London). The internship will run from 15th June 2026 - 7th August 2026.

What you'll do

As a Risk & Compliance Intern, you will:

  • Learn how PIC's purpose of paying the pensions of current and future policyholders is supported through effective risk management and applies to the Risk & Compliance function.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the team, including note-taking, creating templates, running reports, drafting internal meeting agendas, and maintaining electronic filing.
  • Attend internal meetings to gain insight into how teams collaborate to identify, assess and manage risks within agreed timeframes.
  • Support ongoing projects and business-as-usual activity across the Risk function, including recurring daily, weekly and monthly processes.
  • Carry out research into industry, regulatory and market developments, reading published articles to build your understanding of financial services risk and how it applies to PIC.
  • Gain exposure to different areas of the Risk function, which may include Non-Financial Risk and Compliance, Investment and Counterparty Risk, and Enterprise Risk Management, depending on team needs and your interests.

Requirements

What we're looking for

You're someone who:

  • Can adapt and flex your approach to meet the needs of different tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when working with information and documentation.
  • Takes a logical and structured approach to delivering work.
  • Prioritises effectively and communicates progress clearly to colleagues and managers.
  • Works in an organised way, using tools and strategies to deliver efficiently.
  • Takes ownership of your learning and development, building both technical skills (such as analysis and critical judgement) and non-technical skills (including self-awareness and relationship management).

Eligibility

To be eligible for this internship, you must:

  • Be a second-year university student at the time of application, graduating in 2027
  • Be able to commit to the full programme dates: 15 June – 7 August 2026
  • Have the right to work in the UK

Why Risk & Compliance?

If you're naturally curious, analytical, and interested in understanding how a business identifies and manages risk, this internship offers a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure across PIC. You'll develop a strong foundation in risk management while seeing how effective oversight helps protect the organisation and support its long-term purpose.

Benefits

In addition to your base salary, you will be given daily lunch vouchers to use in our internal Cafe and receive travel reimbursement for the duration of your internship.
