What you’ll do

Join us to work on one of our international programmes. Risk know-how empowers people to navigate different types of risk information and helps them assess the risks and weigh up claims and data within their own context.

You will gain experience in:

  • Running project activities individually and within a team
  • Researching and creating different kinds of material from social media to policy briefs
  • Building and organising networks of policymakers, researchers and public
  • Managing and delivering events and workshops
  • Attending and presenting in Parliament

You will develop an understanding of institutions and how they work, and how to engage policymakers, researchers and the public effectively. Sense about Science has a great track record with successful, paid internships. We mainly work in the office, so you’ll have support and be part of a lovely team with a diverse, interesting international network.

What we offer

You’ll be part of a small dynamic team that supports each other and celebrates success. We’ll help you grow and develop your skills, with opportunities to learn from colleagues and through hands-on responsibility. Our offices are close to Regents Park and Oxford Circus in a shared building with cycle, shower and kitchen facilities, and friendly staff.

The position is a fixed 4-month contract with a flexible start date but must cover October and November. The salary is £2000 pcm.

What we’re looking for

A strong connection with our cause and a keen interest in current affairs and public discussions about science and evidence.

You’re keen to learn, highly organised, intelligent – and flexible in a team. You take notes, you troubleshoot, and you’re prepared to try. Experience and an aptitude for synthesising information is essential.

The following experience is also relevant, but not essential:

  • Delivering projects to budgets and deadlines
  • Web CMS systems and databases
  • Public speaking and writing
  • Preparing briefs and presentations
  • Organising workshops and events

Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.
