Joining entrepreneur Marina Pengilly, who has built a number of tech and consumer brands including Who Loves You and Little Black Door, the social wardrobe app.

We are fully funded and are beginning on a journey to help change the lives of millions of people via a unique and highly scalable platform for philanthropy.

The position involves extensive research on charities in the UK and abroad. The intern will be working closely with the co-founders.

This internship can become a full-time position.

Role Overview

We are looking for a data scientist who can help with creating and analysing consumer surveys. Demonstrated knowledge of both the theory and practice of data science (with strength in explanatory/inferential and predictive statistics). In this position, you will learn how we structure, standardise, process, and analyse that data, so that we can then build cutting edge data products for our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data from various data sources including survey instrument and relational databases, including the tens of thousands of survey questions and billions of answers
  • Perform exploratory data analysis
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
  • Develop scripts, workflows, and ETL pipelines for data pre-processing, cleaning and model inputs.
  • Deploy statistical models developed by senior data scientists into production environments, with a focus on accuracy, speed, and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain summary dashboards of key survey information for tracking purposes
  • Develop and deploy processes and tools to monitor and analyse pipeline performance and data accuracy

What You Will Learn

  • Gain firsthand experience in nonprofit and corporate collaboration for social impact.
  • Experience the fast-paced world of a pre-seed stage startup, where you'll navigate uncertainties, prioritise tasks, and solve problems creatively.

Technical Skills:

  • Degree in a quantitative field of study
  • Experience using Python and SQL; R helpful as well
  • Experience using tools such as Pandas to manipulate data and draw insights from data sets rapidly
  • Preferably, experience working as a data engineer/analyst in a cloud-based environment, using AWS (preferred), GCP or Azure

  • You'll then complete a technical task (1 hour).
  • Progress to an interview with Marina, CEO and co-founder.
  • Final interview with both co-founders (in person).

Role Requirements

  • 2.1 or higher university degree (or equivalent experience).
  • 1+ years of relevant experience (or strong internship experience).
  • Ability to learn new tools and adapt to new processes quickly.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Google G-Suite.
  • Experience with Canva a plus.
  • Enthusiastic, target-driven, and a team player.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A background in Business, Marketing, or Research is a bonus, but not required.
