Internship (Various Sections)
Internship
Drayton Manor Zoo
Located in the West Midlands, our zoo spans 15 acres and is home to over 350 animals across four main sections. Since late 2024, we have been working on exciting developments to introduce new species and ideas, taking our conservation efforts to the next level. We are committed to high standards of animal welfare and eager to share our knowledge and experience with the next generation of conservation advocates.
Internship Placements
Our internship placements provide hands-on experience across all animal sections, as well as research and education opportunities covering mammals, primates, birds, and LVI. We aim to give interns a broad range of exposure to help develop their knowledge and skills within the sector. You can choose from 3, 6, 9, or 12-month internship options (4 days per week, including weekends), working an 8am - 5pm schedule.
Qualifications
Applicants must be 18 or older, either in a gap year, pursuing a sandwich placement degree, or have graduated from a higher education institution in a relevant qualification.
Responsibilities
During your internship, you will participate in daily husbandry and care of our animals, including diet preparation and feeding, enclosure maintenance, record keeping, and health checks. There will also be opportunities to attend workshops hosted by our keepers and education staff, offering insights into zoo operations, veterinary care, and management. For those interested in a 12-month internship, there will be opportunities to undertake research under the guidance of our research co-ordinator.
Additional Information
We accept applications year-round but have a limited number of placements, so start times may vary.
