This is an exciting opportunity for two current UWE students to get real-world, hands-on experience of working in a large and complex Student Services department. Based within the friendly Library enquiries team you will work as part of the frontline service to support students and staff to access our collection and services.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in customer service and to develop skills in creating resources to support fellow students at UWE. Based in the Library enquiries team, you will spend a significant amount of time working at the library service desk at both Frenchay and Glenside helping students as well as providing administrative support through participation in library projects across campuses.
If you are considering a career working in Higher Education, Librarianship, Customer Service, or you’re unsure and would like to develop broad administrative experience in a large and complex organisation this placement will help you gain valuable work experience and develop your CV.
This role will involve:
- Working on a front-facing desk providing students with information about our services and signposting as appropriate, this is a significant part of the role.
- Working as part of a team and gaining administrative experience in a large and complex organisation.
- Developing your CV with support from the careers team and your line manager.
- Collaborating and supporting other members of the Enquiries and Disabilities Team with a range of administrative tasks.
- Helping to facilitate and organise library tours with students and external borrowers.
- Working with other colleagues on various projects as required, for example the library withdrawal of resources project.
About you
Your experience as a UWE student will be invaluable in working with Library staff to enhance services and feed the student voice into new projects and developments. We try to make our placements adaptable so that we can help you develop the skills you need for your CV, you will work with your line manager to identify opportunities to get involved with work that interests you as well as your day-to-day duties.
You will have access to a high level of training and development that will both help your future studies and develop skills and aptitudes in support of your future career. As part of your placement, you would be offered an extensive induction, and training in key areas. You will be encouraged to reflect on your experiences and to share your learning with colleagues. You will have access to support from the careers team to develop your CV and make the most of your experience. Some of our previous placement students have gone on to use their placement experience to help them develop their dissertation proposal, others have gone on to internships at UWE after graduating.
This role is open to UWE undergraduate students from any faculty and approved course that has a sandwich module option for academic year 2025/2026 available. Placements start in August 2025 and last for 1 year. Where is this role based?
These posts are based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed. You will also work at our Glenside Campus which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles north east of Bristol City Centre.

These are a full-time, fixed-term post Starting in August 2025 and lasting 1 year, working 37 hours per week. You must be a current UWE student with a sandwich placement module option for 2025/2026 and if you are offered the role you will need to have your placement approved by your tutor.

This role is therefore campus based for all of your time.
