Why this role matters

Help keep essential materials and transport operations moving safely and securely. You’ll support the systems, processes and teams that make sure materials and components are controlled, stored, moved and accounted for across AWE.

Entry requirement

At least a 2:2 in an Engineering or Science-based degree, with an interest in systems, logistics, processes or planning. A full UK driving licence would be beneficial. You must be graduating in either 2029 or 2030.

Security clearance

You must be a UK national, hold a UK passport, have lived in the UK for the past 10 years and be willing and able to obtain and maintain DV security clearance.

Working pattern

A 9-day working fortnight, with every second Friday off. This role is predominantly site and office-based at Aldermaston, near Reading. Working from home cannot be guaranteed.

What you could work on

• Materials and inventory: Support goods receipt, warehousing, distribution, stock management and material control.

• Transport and fleet: Gain insight into safe and secure transport, fleet coordination and the movement of materials.

• Planning and processes: Help maintain through-life plans, stock replenishment, audit activity and accurate records.

• Stakeholder support: Work with customers, suppliers and operational teams to meet programme needs and improve processes.

Why being onsite will support your development

This is predominantly a site and office-based placement. Due to the nature and security of the work, we cannot guarantee working from home. Being onsite gives you direct access to subject matter experts, operational teams and hands-on learning, helping you build confidence and develop faster.

You’ll gain experience across inventory management, warehousing, transport, material control, process improvement and stakeholder engagement. This can prepare you for careers in logistics, supply chain, operations or transport management, with the potential to return through a future graduate opportunity.

What happens after you apply

3. Virtual assessment centre: Successful candidates will be invited to a virtual assessment centre during November or December 2026.

4. Pre-assessment support: You’ll receive practical guidance through a webinar.

5. Offer and clearance: Successful candidates move into offer and security-clearance stages before joining on 2 August 2027.
