Are you an ambitious engineering student looking to turn your academic knowledge into real-world experience? Join ADM, a global leader in nutrition and agricultural solutions, for an exciting year-long (summer 2027 to summer 2028) engineering industrial placement at our Oilseeds processing site in Purfleet (Essex) on the outskirts of East London.
This is your opportunity to work alongside experienced engineering professionals, gain hands-on experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment, and contribute to projects that keep our operations running safely, efficiently, and reliably.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of our engineering team, you’ll gain valuable exposure to our oilseed processing facility and/or packaging hall operations, taking on meaningful challenges and developing practical skills across a range of engineering disciplines.
Your responsibilities and learning opportunities will include:
- Maintenance and Reliability: Support planned and preventative maintenance activities to keep plant equipment operating safely and efficiently.

- Fault Finding and Problem-Solving: Help diagnose equipment faults, respond to breakdowns, and identify opportunities to improve performance.
- Health, Safety and Environment: Learn and apply industry-leading safety standards, contribute to risk assessments, and support environmental initiatives.
- Safe Systems of Work: Gain experience with method statements, equipment-specific lockout procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
- Engineering Systems: Develop your understanding of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and how they support effective maintenance planning.
- Root Cause Analysis: Participate in equipment investigations, reliability discussions, and initiatives to prevent recurring issues.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to projects that enhance operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and overall plant performance.
- Global Business Exposure: Discover how a global organisation operates and explore the engineering challenges and opportunities within modern manufacturing.
What You'll Gain
At ADM, we believe an internship should be more than just work experience. It should be an opportunity to learn, grow and make a genuine contribution.
Throughout your placement, you’ll benefit from personalized coaching, mentoring and guidance from experienced professionals. You’ll develop practical engineering skills, strengthen your problem-solving abilities, and gain an insight into the realities of industrial operations.
You’ll also have the opportunity to take ownership of projects that align with your interests, support your development, and deliver value to our business.
Who We're Looking For
We’re looking for motivated undergraduates studying engineering or a related technical discipline and expecting to gain a grade 2:2 or above, who are eager to learn, enjoy solving problems, and want to understand how engineering works in a real industrial environment. If you’re curious, proactive, safety-conscious, and ready to take on new challenges, we’d love to hear from you.
