The role of a Material Scheduler in the procurement department is to break down Tender stage documents into a detailed material summary from which costs can be tracked, logged, and investigated throughout the life cycle of a project. The candidate’s entry into a department will begin with training on construction material types to build a strong knowledge base for take offs. A role in Stanmore’s procurement department is office based but will involve interactive site visits to aid learning. The role requires the ability to scrutinize costs and ask the right questions, skills which will taught and developed over time. The procurement department provides a good base for any candidate to enter the construction industry as it provides training from cradle to grave when managing material costs on a project.
