Job Role & Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice, your day-to-day role would involve, but not be limited to, the following activities:
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Read and interpret schematics and P&IDs and translate them into schemes of work.
- Research and analyze vendor/supplier design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the technical content, feasibility, cost, and maintenance suitability.
- Manage a wide variety of technical tasks using first engineering principles.
- Understand project health and safety aspects relating to mechanical engineering including CDM and supporting design risk assessments.
- Support senior and principal engineers on live projects with the preparation of design deliverables such as:
- Drawings/sketches
- Specifications
- Data sheets
- Support the mechanical engineering department with administrative tasks to underpin broader learning within the business.

Requirements & Experience
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) with proficiency in a technical software package as a plus.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a vibrant multi discipline design environment.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to produce accurate work to strict project deadlines.
- Flexibility to work both in design office and on construction teams.
University Criteria
- You will need 96 UCAS Points.
- Your Level 3 subjects must include mathematics and a science subject; for instance, A-level Mathematics and Physics or BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering.
- Technology and engineering subjects and additional mathematics subjects (such as further maths and statistics) will be accepted as science subjects.
- You should also have five GCSEs at grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent), including English, Mathematics, and Science.
- If you have an HND/C in an appropriate engineering discipline, we'll consider you for entry to level HE5 of this programme, depending on the subject area of qualification and the level of maths and science that you have achieved.
You may be asked to undertake additional assessments (s) to determine your suitability for the course. You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.
