We are looking for talented individuals to join our Energy and Natural Resources business and our Auctions and Market Design business over the summer in London.

Responsibilities

Examples of our work might involve the evaluation of climate change and energy policies, including emissions, renewable energy, and energy efficiency policies; assessment of economic impacts including costs, benefits, and other social effects of a wide variety of government policies and regulations to markets, businesses, and assets; auction design and/or simulation, and competitors' analysis; development of pricing systems for transport infrastructure; or preparation of expert reports on economic and finance issues in litigation and international arbitration proceedings.

NERA's Auctions team applies economic theory to help governments and businesses design and run competitive auctions. Using game theory and auction design principles, the team develops effective auction formats and bidding strategies. Their expertise spans industries including energy, telecommunications, and procurement. The team also develops specialized software to manage auctions and analyze bidding behavior. This offers students an exciting example of how economic theory solves real-world business and policy challenges.

This is a unique opportunity to work on real cases and projects to gain invaluable experience in economic consulting. Collaborating with internationally recognized experts, you will learn more about the integral work that NERA performs.

Interns at NERA will have the opportunity to work on real cases and:

• Conduct literature and data research
• Perform conceptual analysis applying the theoretical literature to the facts of a case
• Manage and clean data
• Analyze data and interpret results
• Participate actively in drafting reports, memoranda, presentations, and other work products

You Will Need

• To be studying Economics. You will either be in the final year of your undergraduate studies, or a current Master's or PhD student in Economics, ideally in your penultimate year
• To enjoy microeconomics and quantitative research
• To be comfortable working in Excel, Stata, R, Python, or other quantitative software platforms
• To have strong attention to detail and be able to think analytically and critically
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken, with fluency in another language being useful but not essential
• Ability to work effectively both individually and in teams
