This is a fantastic entry-level role where you’ll receive full training and development while working with cutting-edge optical technologies used in high-performance applications.
About the Role
As a Trainee Optical Manufacturing Technician, you will learn how to manufacture and inspect precision optical components. You’ll be supported by experienced engineers and technicians while developing practical skills in machining, measurement, and process improvement.
This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in engineering, manufacturing, or science who is eager to learn and grow within a high-tech environment.
What You’ll Be Doing

Learning to set up and operate high-precision manufacturing equipment

Assisting in the production of optical components and assemblies

Supporting measurement and inspection activities using specialist equipment

Recording production data and helping maintain accurate documentation

Reading and following technical drawings and process instructions (with training)

Supporting continuous improvement and LEAN manufacturing initiatives

Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work environment

Working collaboratively with colleagues across engineering and production teams
What We’re Looking For

A strong interest in engineering, manufacturing, or technology

Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn

Basic understanding of maths and science principles

Practical or hands-on skills (from education, hobbies, or work experience) are advantageous

Good communication skills and ability to work in a team

A proactive attitude and strong work ethic
Desirable (but not essential)

Relevant qualification (e.g. engineering, manufacturing, physics)

Exposure to workshop tools, machining, or technical environments
-
Awareness of quality standards or manufacturing processes
