Your Impact

Start your Jacobs career with a company that inspires and empowers you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow, and succeed — today and into tomorrow.

What We Do at Jacobs

At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical problems and improving the lives of people everywhere. From facilities delivering life‑saving therapies and ensuring clean water, to enabling the connection of people through all modes of transportation and providing access to technology, we integrate a multitude of solution elements to build the smart environments of tomorrow.

About the Opportunity

As Cities & Places, we create thriving places across scales — from regions and cities to neighborhoods and individual buildings — through an integrated design approach. We have a tremendous opportunity to grow an interdisciplinary planning, design, and delivery practice that is uniquely Jacobs and sets the direction for the industry.

Our business unit brings together engineers, architects, surveyors, urban designers, project managers, and transport planners to provide collaborative and coordinated value design solutions for clients nationally and internationally.

Role Outline and Responsibilities

To support our growth and work-winning strategy, we are expanding the Architecture team in the UK. We are recruiting engineering and architectural professionals to work within our design teams and play an integral role in delivering high-value solutions for our clients.

We are seeking a Part 1 Architectural Assistant to join the Cities & Places UK Architecture team. Based in the London office, with work across the UK and Europe, you will collaborate with Architects within a multi-disciplinary design team, delivering design solutions across sectors including Public Sector, Defence, Transportation, Commercial, Pharmaceutical, and Mixed-Use Development.

We deliver projects across all stages of the building design and construction process — from initial strategic briefing and feasibility studies, through development of conceptual and technical proposals, to construction-phase delivery.

You will need strong design skills. We will provide support and mentoring to help you collaborate with project team members in preparing, reviewing, and refining design proposals using various media — from traditional hand-sketching for concept and detailed design to delivery using BIM (Building Information Modelling).

Success in this role requires clear communication, a collaborative and proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider project team. Regular check-ins to review progress, discuss design decisions, and surface any blockers will be part of your day-to-day approach.

Hybrid Working

We value collaboration and believe in-person interactions are crucial for both our culture and client delivery. Our hybrid working policy enables you to split your work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations, empowering you to deliver your best work.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified to RIBA Part I level and seeking a year-out position prior to commencing Part II.
  • Degree in Architecture.
  • Knowledge of BIM-based delivery, including Autodesk Revit.
  • Strong design communication skills in drawing and written formats.
  • Advanced English language skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a desire to develop practical solutions.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised.
  • Team player able to work effectively within different teams.
  • Proactive mindset with a flexible approach, able to work on a wide range of design projects.

Inclusion, Accessibility, and Flexibility

Jacobs partners with VERCIDA to help attract and retain diverse talent. As a Disability Confident employer, we will interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a vacancy.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking flexible working and from those who may not meet all the listed requirements for a role.

If you require further support or reasonable adjustments with regard to the recruitment process, support is available, including providing the application form in different formats.

Your application experience is important to us, and we’re keen to adapt to make every interaction even better. We welcome feedback on our recruitment process.
