Postgraduate Administrator
Postgraduate study
The Department of Geography is seeking an experienced and dynamic administrator to co-ordinate its postgraduate course provision. This is a fixed-term vacancy to cover for a colleague on secondment, offering an exciting opportunity to join a small, friendly team and experience a key role supporting the work of the Department of Geography.
Role & Responsibilities
The role involves being the administrative lead for postgraduate matters in the Department, covering five MPhil (Masters) programmes and two PhD programmes. Responsibilities include managing and co-ordinating the Postgraduate Office, working collaboratively with the dedicated MPhil course administrators, and being directly responsible for the administration of one research MPhil and two PhD programmes. The role also involves working closely with the Director of Postgraduate Studies to provide advice and support to ensure successful course completion for all postgraduate students.
Admissions & Application Review
The administrator is also the key person for postgraduate admissions; working closely with the Admissions Director. Responsibilities include successfully administering the review of all applications and coordinating nominations for funding. Given the broad discipline coverage, which uniquely spans arts, humanities, social and physical sciences, the administrator will need to develop detailed knowledge and understanding of a wide range of student sponsors and Funding Councils, as well as the different working practices of multiple Doctoral Training Centres and Programmes.
Support & Collaboration
The role is supported by the full-time Teaching Administrator, approximately half of whose time is allocated to postgraduate matters. This collaboration ensures efficiency and provides comprehensive administrative support across the department.
