See what big changes are around the corner and play a part in delivering one of our ambitious digital, strategic or infrastructure projects. You’ll develop real experiences, contacts and knowledge whilst receiving support from colleagues around you.

If making an impact matters to you. You matter to us

Successful delivery matters.

What you’ll be doing

Working with our world class Projects and Business Change Management team, you’ll play a hands-on role in delivering the next generation of safer and better performing railways. With many important projects being deployed all across the business, you could find yourself working on Engineering Assets, Safety, Environment or Information Management.

Wherever you’re placed, you’ll gain valuable experience in delivering projects on time, on budget and to a high quality, as well as managing risks. You’ll also build relationships with stakeholders throughout the business and wider industry and deliver business changes throughout our different regions and routes.

Who you are matters

You’ll need to be in your penultimate year at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree subject.

We’re looking for curious, self-motivated individuals with an excellent work ethic and the ability to identify unique approaches to how we work. You should have an eye for detail and the ability to approach complex problems pragmatically. Other qualities we’d like to see are:

  • High organisation skills

  • Good teamwork

  • Ability to empathise and high emotional intelligence

  • Great personal resilience

What you’ll get out of it

We’re passionate about developing the next generation of talent that will come into our industry, and that means we’ll ensure you’re surrounded by supportive colleagues and receive coaching from senior staff.

We invest in our placement students because we believe they hold the potential to become the future of our business. Over the 12-months, you’ll get a rounded experience of what it takes to work in Project Management at Network Rail. Impress us, and we’ll consider you for next year’s graduate scheme.
