This is a great opportunity to be in a new part of our business within the Burnaston Refurb & Customisation centre (BRC). The BRC work both with internal team members and external partners on projects within the vehicle lifecycle, including accessory fitments, customisation & conversions, servicing, repair and remarketing of used vehicles. Our latest project is looking at how to recycle end of life vehicles back into new vehicles.

You will join a great group of individuals that make up a successful team. We have ambitious plans to grow the department significantly over the next few years, which includes winning new business and increasing the size of the team.

Your Time Here:

Here at Toyota, we develop members match for both now and the future, focusing on both personal and professional development. Over the two-year scheme, you'll get to see the breadth of our business, receiving responsibility that will stretch your problem-solving skills and introduce you to people at all levels. It will be a challenging scheme consistently testing your abilities and you’ll receive plenty of support from your mentor, managers, and colleagues.

Working within the project team, you will be trusted and empowered to both support and lead projects of your own from concept to completion. You’ll need to manage multiple concurrent projects using your time effectively, prioritising accurately, and utilising resources efficiently to hit key milestones and deadlines.

You’ll be estimating and monitoring the cost of projects under your control, seeking profit opportunities, visualising project status to senior management and working closely with the shopfloor to take your concept or prototype into a mass production operation.

This role is customer facing and involves working with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll need to be able to communicate your ideas and market your projects both internally and externally to our partners.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence the development and implementation of processes to support the projects you work on and will need to build consensus with the stakeholders on these to meet your targets.

Previous Trainee Specialist (Graduate) Projects include:

  • Working with UK police forces to understand the requirements of a police vehicle.
  • Working with our pilot and engineering teams to create a prototype and business case and finally implementation on the shop floor
  • Organising and rolling-out the vehicle wrapping of a fleet of vehicles for the Olympics
  • Prototyping various Toyota / Lexus special edition vehicles

All graduates will take part in six weeks of line training. This will mean that for those six weeks you will work on an area where we build the cars on the shop floor. This experience is extremely rewarding and interesting and gives you a real hands-on insight into what Toyota Manufacturing is all about. We believe this experience is crucial for your personal development and rather unique to our company.

We place great emphasis on learning by doing - usually through structured, on-the-job training. Our graduate programme is assessed and designed to help you reach the standard needed to move into a specialist position at the end of the 2-year programme.

What we look for:

Alongside having a consistently excellent academic record, with a minimum 2:1 predicted degree result, we are looking for people who eagerly want to learn from others and are motivated to take on new challenges with a positive mindset. We believe that there's always a better way, therefore if you share our values and thrive on analysing problems from different angles to develop solutions, you could go a long way with us. Similarly, taking a practical approach to your work is important – you will need to be as comfortable on the shop floor as you are in the office, conducting "go-look-see” activities to visualise problems and logically apply countermeasures with supporting data. BRC is a fast-paced environment where teamworking matters, therefore good interpersonal skills and effective communication are essential to ensure collaboration across projects. You’ll need great organisational skills and be competent in Microsoft Office applications.

Applications from all degree disciplines are welcome to ensure we create a diverse workforce.
