About the Role

Role Overview

We are looking for a Service Desk Support Analyst (Student Placement) to join our IT Services team for a one-year placement. This role is a key point of contact between IT Services and the BU community.

You will provide first-line technical support and aim to resolve issues at the first point of contact wherever possible. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced Service Desk environment while building your technical and customer service skills.

This role is ideal for a BU student who enjoys problem-solving, helping others, and working with technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide first-line IT support by phone, in person, and online
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents and service requests using approved tools and systems
  • Take ownership of issues and escalate them when needed, while staying responsible through to resolution
  • Keep users updated on progress, planned changes, and service outages
  • Log and update incidents accurately to support reporting and service improvement
  • Work closely with colleagues across IT Services to deliver a consistent, professional service
  • Support continuous improvement and customer satisfaction activities

What We’re Looking For

  • A full-time BU student completing a placement year
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • The ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure
  • A basic understanding of IT services, Windows, and Microsoft 365
  • A positive, customer-focused approach and the ability to work well in a team

Note: This position does not meet the eligibility requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route within the UK Visa and Immigration service’s Points Based System. Therefore, BU will not be able to sponsor individuals who require permission to work to carry out this position.

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS CURRENTLY STUDYING, AND THOSE WHO HAVE GRADUATED FROM BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS ONLY.
