The Opportunity

Being a Student Ambassador is a great way to get involved in university life, have fun, and gain valuable transferable skills. You’ll play a key role in helping prospective students and their supporters understand what makes the University of Edinburgh a great place to study.

Student Ambassadors represent the University, their School, and the wider student body to a range of internal and external audiences. The work is varied and may include leading campus tours, supporting on-campus and online events, taking part in peer-to-peer text chat, contributing to student panels, and supporting other activities throughout the year. Ambassadors will receive role-specific training to support the activities they undertake.

The role is flexible and designed to fit around your studies, with no guaranteed or set number of hours per week or month. While the work is ad hoc and cannot offer a steady income, it provides valuable paid work experience. The pay rate for this role is £13.45 per hour, with an additional 18.1% (£2.43) applied to cover holiday pay.

  • Why do you want to be a Student Ambassador?
  • What skills and experience do you have that are relevant, in particular in relation to the essential and desirable criteria?

Championing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

The University of Edinburgh holds a Silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of our commitment to advance gender equality in higher education. We are members of the Race Equality Charter and we are also Stonewall Scotland Diversity Champions, actively promoting LGBT equality.

To ensure that our ambassadors appropriately represent the University we will be recruiting students to reflect the diversity of the student body. We encourage all applications, and we welcome applications from students who are evidentially underrepresented within our student body.
