Welcome to BASF

We are BASF in Agriculture and everything we do, we do for the love of farming, and the biggest job on Earth. We are an internationally successful company of the BASF Group. Our solutions are purpose-designed for different crop systems. Connecting seeds and traits, crop protection products, digital tools and sustainability approaches, we help deliver the best possible outcomes for farmers, growers, and our other stakeholders along the value chain. With teams in the lab, field, office, and production, we do everything in our power to build a sustainable future for agriculture.

What You Can Expect

An Assistant Technical Agronomist role includes experience in all aspects of field trials work over the course of an agricultural year. Reporting to the R&D Operations Manager and working alongside a team of agronomists within the BASF Agricultural Solutions Division, you will assist with the planning and execution of a range of field trials in support of current and future new compounds in our development pipeline. This will entail reporting on progress and results for individual projects.

This is a highly varied role where you will be responsible for a wide range of different tasks, including assisting and applying product, preparing seed, product preparation, and many other tasks vital to the smooth day-to-day running of the wider R&D Operations. The placement will provide a basic introduction to agronomy, allowing successful applicants to learn about UK agriculture and the importance of agricultural solutions to global food security. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience of working inside one of the world's leading chemical companies, as well as the opportunity to build upon their agronomic knowledge to further their expertise in this sector. PA1 and PA6 are also included within the placement.

Alongside their day-to-day responsibilities, there will be the opportunity for assistants to run their own project. This may be based around a variety of agricultural solutions topics depending on the individual's interests. Whilst the role is based around a typical working day, due to the nature of the work, we request candidates be flexible to work outside of these times at peak periods in the year.

What You Offer

  • You are working towards a degree related to Agriculture, Biology, or Agronomy.
  • You are confident working with IT programmes, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • You are a self-motivated individual with excellent communication, teamwork, and organization skills.
  • You have a driving license valid for the UK.
  • Previous experience working on farms or in an agronomy-related role would be an advantage.
  • This is a 12-month placement with a target start date in Summer 2027.
  • Multiple locations are available, including the Suffolk, Yorkshire, and Oxfordshire areas.
  • You have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the placement.

What We Offer

Responsibility from day one in a challenging work environment and 'on-the-job' training as part of a committed team.
