Do you have a disability or long-term health condition? Would you like to join Nottinghamshire County Council for a three-month paid internship this summer?

If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Nottinghamshire County Council’s Summer Internship is designed for students or recent graduates with a disability or long-term health condition and that are either a resident in Nottinghamshire or attend a Nottinghamshire University. This three-month paid internship is designed to help you gain valuable knowledge and experience to support you in your future career. You will be allocated a mentor and be provided with individual support to guarantee a valuable experience.

The County Council offers over 400 different services that support people who live, work, study or visit Nottinghamshire. We work together as one team across Departments to make sure these services are available when people need them. You will be involved in meaningful work that helps deliver on some of our key ambitions as outlined in the Nottinghamshire Plan.

As this is an internship we’re not expecting the finished article. Instead, we’re looking for people who can be creative and innovative in finding solutions, are positive and adaptable, and can drive forward change whilst remaining resilient. Comfortable working under pressure, you’ll be able to work in collaboration with others but also be willing to take responsibility. You’ll also embrace our organisational values particularly in terms of diversity. We are a proud signatory of the Race at Work Charter and are also accredited as a Disability Confident Leader employer. And with thriving networks of Black, Disabled, Neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ employees, we are particularly keen to receive applications from those who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

The three-month internship offers you the chance to gain valuable experience in the workplace and to develop some of the skills, knowledge, and experiences that can help you in your future career aspirations.

You will be recruited on to the scheme as an intern and then allocated a placement in one of our departments according to your skill set, career aspirations or development needs. You will get the opportunity to work in a supportive environment that is committed to your individual needs and development.

We Are Looking For Applicants With The Ability To:

  • Work to your own initiative.
  • Have a high level of personal drive.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Work well within a team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including ICT skills.
  • Use effective analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills relevant to the placement.

The programme will run for three months between June and September.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.

Under the Disability Confident scheme (formerly known as the Guaranteed Interview Scheme), we would like to ensure applicants with disabilities are offered an interview if they meet the minimum criteria for a job. Please let us know if this is something you would like to be considered for.

A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strongly encourages applications from all candidates from different walks of life, irrespective of gender, marital status, disability, race, religion, belief, pregnancy and maternity status, age or sexual orientation.
