At NFU Mutual, our PR and Media Relations team plays a critical role in shaping and managing our public image. Through proactive media engagement, compelling storytelling, and strategic messaging, we build trust in our brand, connect with key audiences, and effectively protect our reputation.
As a PR & Media Relations intern, you’ll help craft press releases, develop key messages, and produce media materials that will be used across national and regional news outlets. Your role will involve monitoring media coverage, engaging with journalists, and supporting the development of case studies and infographics to enhance public engagement.
You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners, including trade, regional, national and broadcast media to ensure our messages are effectively communicated. Balancing both proactive and reactive PR efforts, you’ll contribute to the success of our media campaigns while maintaining the confidentiality and professionalism required in this field.
By the end of the programme, you’ll have played a key role in delivering a prominent campaign and other key pieces of work, gaining valuable experience in media relations, press engagement, and corporate communications. You’ll also get the opportunity to showcase your learning to members of the senior leadership team. Throughout the internship, you’ll receive guidance from a programme manager and a buddy, ensuring you feel supported.
Recruitment process

Successful completion of the programme may even lead to you being fast-tracked through our graduate programme application process for 2025, subject to availability and eligibility.

What we're looking for
You’re a motivated and proactive individual with a passion for PR, media relations, and storytelling. You’re on track for a minimum 2:1 honours degree in a relevant subject such as Media Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Media Studies, or Corporate Communications and you bring excellent written and verbal communication skills to the role. Previous experience in a customer-facing or stakeholder engagement role would be beneficial, helping you build solid professional relationships.
You have a natural ability to adapt your communication style to different audiences and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced media environment. You also demonstrate:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build relationships and a flair for storytelling.
- Great planning and organisational abilities, with the capability to manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive approach, demonstrating resilience and the ability to influence key stakeholders.
- Digital literacy, with confidence using media monitoring tools and Microsoft Office.

Salary
This 8-week internship offers a fixed-term contract with a competitive pro-rata salary.
