Tax Technology & Engineering - Full-Time Graduate - London
What does this team do?
Our Tax Consulting practice provides companies and high net worth individuals with advice on their tax, ensuring they remain compliant with regulations. From advising clients on investment tax to working with their innovation and property teams to ensure that the available tax reliefs are maximised, we help our clients make the right business decisions, on a worldwide scale.
A Tax Technology & Engineering role could mean the opportunity to work within the following team:
Global Investments & Innovation Incentives (Gi3): The UK government offers generous tax incentives to companies operating across all areas of science, engineering and tech, to encourage investment in research and development. The Gi3 team is part of a global network of tech, engineering, science and financial specialists who work closely with companies of varying size (from start-ups to large multinationals), helping them unlock these incentives for their innovations in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, manufacturing etc. This involves working closely with our clients to identify their eligible projects (and attributable expenditure), maximising the valuable incentives available.
Our team comprises specialists from both tax/financial and tech backgrounds, where engineers, scientists and IT/software technologists play a pivotal role in supporting our clients in unlocking the incentives available to them. We partner with clients working on some of the most exciting and innovative projects across all areas of science and technology.
What skills and academic qualifications do I need?
Global Investment & Innovation Incentives – Engineering (STEM)
We require you to have achieved, or be working towards, a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics related degree discipline.
You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 degree as mentioned above and have graduated by September 2027 for the Autumn 2027 intake.
What kind of work will I do?
By joining a student programme within Tax Technology & Engineering, you will work with and learn from some of the most talented and experienced professionals in the industry.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with a range of clients, from FTSE 100 organisations to start-ups and private individuals.
You’ll help them solve some of the most complex issues their business is ever likely to face. Many of our established clients are high profile, household names. You will play a key role in a multi-disciplinary collaborative team and will learn about the UK's latest tech developments.
Depending on the area you join, you may be using your technical background to understand and support a client’s development activities or form the basis for their research and development, patent box claims and grant applications. Alternatively, by using cloud services and cutting-edge technology (then applying it to the tax technology domain) you will support the build of software platforms to provide better business insight and efficiencies.
Where will I work?
At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.
All our workspaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team.
How will I develop?
We want our people to have worldclass practical experience coupled with the technical rigour and knowledge that comes from the right professional qualification.
We think the best experience is being immersed in client work, working alongside other team members, and learning the practical skills that will set you up for a successful career. That will be the initial focus whether you are a Graduate, an Industrial Placement, or a BrightStart, supported by internal training and support from coaches, people leaders, and your team.
We think this is vital and will set you up for success when we further support your development with a professional qualification, recognising that different roles across our business align to different pathways. These may include options such as joint or accelerated programmes leading to qualifications like Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), as well as other more specialist routes focused on tax or technical expertise.
