Trainee Solicitor
Bhatt Murphy has opportunities for trainee solicitors starting in October 2026 and October 2027. The contracts will be for two years to allow applicants to gain the practical skills and experience required to practice effectively as a solicitor. Successful applicants will gain experience of one or more of the firm’s areas of specialist practice.
These positions are open to applicants intending to qualify as a solicitor either by completion of the LPC or via the Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam route.
Candidates applying for trainee solicitor positions may also be eligible to apply for the firm’s bursary scheme to help with the costs of the SQE or the LPC. Full details of the scheme, including the eligibility criteria are available from the recruitment pages of our website.
About Bhatt Murphy
Bhatt Murphy was established in 1998 by a group of lawyers who share a commitment to the protection of civil liberties.
We provide specialist representation to members of the public who seek accountability from public authorities. Our clients bring cases against the police, the immigration authorities, mental health providers, social services and the criminal justice agencies. We have been involved in many high-profile cases since the firm was first established 28 years ago, including landmark challenges which have resulted in positive change for some of the most marginalised and vulnerable in society.
Bhatt Murphy provides excellent training in our specialist areas of practice and our trainees and paralegals benefit from working alongside some of the leading practitioners in our field. Our lawyers work on important and often ground-breaking cases and we are committed to training the next generation of legal aid practitioners.
We are a friendly team, and it is important to us that our employees enjoy their work and know that their contribution is valued. We try to ensure that our staff are listened to and have opportunities to progress within the firm. We have lots of social events throughout the year and we are committed to looking after the mental health of our staff, from keeping our kitchen stocked with fruit to offering access to targeted wellbeing support.
Bhatt Murphy is an equal opportunities employer. We aim to have a workforce that is representative of the clients we serve and the area in which our firm is based. We highly encourage applications from members of groups who are under-represented within our firm and in the broader legal profession, including those from minority ethnic backgrounds, candidates with disabilities, and applicants who were the first in their family to attend higher education.
Salary: £30,000 per annum rising to £32,000 in the second year of training.
