Are you passionate about developing and creating applications? At Advanced Electric Machines (AEM), we’re looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us over the summer on a value-add work placement for 12 weeks.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a company that’s redefining electric motor technology—without rare earth materials!

About the Role...

AEM previously developed an application to capture and report CO2e data for both the business and its employees. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will play a key role in enhancing and optimising an existing application.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in precision, enjoys exploring development application work, and wants to be part of a forward-thinking company committed to sustainability.

About Us...

Founded in 2016 as a spin-out from Newcastle University, AEM has worked with industry partners and vehicle manufacturers globally in sustainable powertrain technologies.

Our products are helping vehicle manufacturers across industries transition to cleaner, more efficient electric solutions. We’re proud to say our technology keeps more rare earth materials and copper in the ground—where they belong!

At AEM, we’re ambitious, fast-moving, and driven by purpose. If you’re looking for a workplace that values innovation, teamwork, and environmental impact, you’ll fit right in.

What Will You Do...

  • Be confident to design a modern user interface with tiered permission levels, developing a mobile version to complete the existing Windows application
  • Be capable to upgrade the database infrastructure on the backend, as well as creating the new front end system.
  • You will be responsible for building a multifunctional, report-style dashboard, while ensuring robust security is maintained across all components of the system

What Are We Looking For...

Attributes Required:

  • Ability to work largely unsupervised
  • Be pro-active to solve problems independently

Skills & Attributes Required:

  • Strong proficiency across Microsoft Office suite (strong Excel script skills, using TypeScript, or JavaScript based automation)
  • Capable of producing internal reports (excel) and presentations (powerpoint)
  • Should be familiar with Power Apps and Power BI (or similar platforms)
  • You are confident with key programming & formula languages such as Power Fx, C#, and SQL

What You Will Work & Earn...

  • You will work 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday, with the option of an early finish on a Friday!
  • During the 12-week work placement, you will earn National Minimum Wage (NMW) for your age
  • You will be based on-site, at the AEM offices in Washington, Tyne and Wear

If this role excites you, and you’re ready to be part of a company that’s making a real impact, we’d love to hear from you!
