Who we are: transforming lives through education
Ark is an education charity working to make sure that all children, regardless of their background, have access to a great education and real choices in life.
Our network of 48 schools serves 34,000 students in communities across Birmingham, Hastings, London, Pontefract and Portsmouth.
Teaching is central to that mission. By helping pupils understand a challenging concept, discover an interest or grow in confidence, you can contribute to opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
Train in a school from day one
Ark Teacher Training is an “Outstanding” Initial Teacher Training programme for graduates and career changers.
You’ll be based in a school from the start, learning from experienced teachers and leaders while seeing how teaching works in practice.
Across the academic year, you’ll follow your pupils’ progress while developing your own skills. You’ll see how understanding builds over time—and how your growing confidence as a teacher can help pupils develop theirs.
For maths and science trainees, that means learning to turn subject knowledge into lessons that help young people tackle difficult ideas, ask questions and discover what they can achieve.
Professional development that continues beyond training
At Ark, professional learning is not limited to your first year.
Across our network, we provide ongoing training and development, opportunities to keep learning, and support from colleagues who share a commitment to education.
Early career development
Ark also offers a supportive two-year Early Career Teacher programme, drawing on its expertise in teacher training and development to support teachers during these important first years.
Continued classroom development
For classroom teachers within Ark, high-quality professional learning and development remain a priority throughout their careers.
Our aim is to help teachers keep developing their practice—not simply complete their initial training.
