3rd Seat Trainee

Ashurst LLP

I've really enjoyed my time at Ashurst so far. Having just completed my second seat in the International Projects Group (IPG), and my first seat in Global Loans, I'm now sitting in the Digital Economy Team. Within the Ashurst IPG team I was able to build on my prior banking experience by working on Project Finance transactions, whilst also gaining exposure to Project Development and M&A deals. There is a team focus on global connectivity, so it isn’t unusual to be working with Associates in different offices, helping to broaden your internal network. Over six months, I have worked on deals involving a multitude of different sectors and jurisdictions spanning across Europe, Africa and Asia. All of the team, from Partner to Junior Associate were approachable, happy to explain the different deal backgrounds and answer any questions.

A friendly culture is also present across the close network of around 80 trainees, fostered by the regular team socials. There is much emphasis on improving social mobility at Ashurst, and I have really enjoyed being a supervisor for the Access Ashurst scheme. There are various extra-curricular activities to get involved with including netball, hockey, football and sailing. There are always pro bono opportunities available and some of us recently ran the London half marathon to help raise money for one of the firm's closely linked charities Toynbee Hall. I'd highly recommend applying for one of our winter or summer vacation schemes to experience our culture and the type of work you could do as an Ashurst trainee!
