Take collective responsibility
What do we do?
Dorset Software provides systems development capabilities to deliver industry leading technology. Our services are used to deliver software development programmes, maintain and support existing technology and develop new systems. For our graduates this means you'll quickly be working on live projects that will have a genuine impact in the real world.
Our work is varied, spanning industries as diverse as high street retail and aerospace communications. Some recent projects include:
Developing systems to help customers open bank accounts across Africa
Working with a multinational engineering technology company to support their development of ‘smart cities’
Managing the suite of core systems used by the medical industry’s legal body
For our consultants this makes for exceptional job variety, ensuring that life never gets boring and your skills are constantly evolving. It also means that you learn not only all about technology, but also all about our clients’ industries.
Working with clients
Our employees work both from our own offices, as well as across the UK, assisting clients at their premises. Willingness to travel is therefore a must.
Assignments vary from a week or two to six months, most commonly being three or six months, and can often be extended again for a further period.
During all onsite assignments our dedicated Logistics team organises everything from high-quality accommodation to parking spaces, and all expenses are covered. Our aim is for our consultants to be able to focus purely on their jobs, without having to worry about the details.
Our Programme
We turn outstanding STEM graduates into exceptional IT professionals
As a Graduate Developer you’ll spend the first year of your scheme in our Poole offices, starting with 5 months of full time developer training, all delivered in-house by our own dedicated trainers.
After this, you'll move onto a live assignment with one of our clients. You’ll continue to have dedicated time set aside each month for further supported training, culminating in a recognised Software Development qualification after approximately two years.
IT experience is an advantage but not a prerequisite, as our comprehensive programme gives you all the skills you need to thrive in a commercial software environment.

Culture & Values
Work hard, play hard, relax
Life at Dorset Software brings with it many benefits, both day-to-day and long term. Here are some of the key perks...
Work Life Balance
Our employees' well-being is really important to us. We don't believe in working long hours and operate a system of flexi-time. This means that everyone works core hours, but outside these you are free to start and leave when you please. Our core hours are shorter on a Friday, allowing you an early start to the weekend.
Additionally, employees can apply for a hybrid working arrangement after a period of time spent settling into the company.
We have a generous and flexible holiday allowance of 25 days per annum, plus 8 bank holidays.
Social Life
There’s no shortage of ways to socialise and make friends when you join Dorset Software.
We have a number of sporting groups on the go, many funded by the company. There's also a busy social agenda organised by members of staff, including the regular Friday night visit to the pub.
Employees in Poole make the most of the fantastic coastal location with activities such as rock climbing and beach barbecues. Our colleagues in Manchester and Oxford enjoy the cosmopolitan lifestyle of two of our most vibrant, characterful cities, with culture and nightlife in abundance.
The company also arranges two big parties every year, which are a great opportunity to mix with colleagues, friends and families.
Office Life
We firmly believe that our staff deserve to be happy and comfortable while they work. Our office dress code is relaxed, just like the atmosphere.
A range of drinks is available free of charge, including tea, coffee and fruit juices. In addition, we have a very well-stocked chocolate biscuit cupboard. And, for the health-conscious, we offer daily fresh fruit.
We have relaxing areas for lunch breaks, where you can lounge on the sofa or join in the weekly craft club.
