Advice featuring G-Research
Operations Analyst Intern
During my placement at G-Research I have had the pleasure of working as a Windows Operations Analyst, a role which has enabled me put in practice the theories I have learnt throughout my Computing degree at the University of Kent.
My role involves building virtual and physical workstations and servers which have been used by a variety of different teams for a vast number of purposes.
I was certain that I wanted to apply to G-Research when I heard about the high standard the company works toward, as well as the encouraging learning environment it provides. For me, it’s important to work for a company that is dedicated and always looks to push the limits of what they can achieve: I always like to be challenged.
Beyond the professionalism and ambition here, what I love about G-Research is the supportive network and its community values. This ensures that each employee’s contributions are appreciated and we all enjoy socialising together.
Graduate Software Engineer
I studied Computer Science at the University of Bristol and while studying made sure all my summers were filled with internships. This included one at a development house building React Native apps and one here at G-Research writing C# internal applications within the real-time platform group.
I was offered a permanent role at G-Research on graduation and now work in a small team improving trading platform technology.
The people here are great, the challenges are great, and the company is at a size where I can feel noticed. Everyone is so intelligent but I am never afraid to ask questions. This has enabled me to grow rapidly as a developer, while also having the time and space to work on my own personal projects.
Security Support Specialist Intern
Joining G-Research after studying Cyber Security with Forensics at Sheffield Hallam University has allowed me to put my prior learning into action and develop a much stronger understanding of working within the technology industry.
As part of my intern rotation I have been exposed to a wide range of technologies, including work with the Network Security team and the Technical Support Security team.
My favourite thing about working at GR is that every day is different and I get to collaborate with a variety of people. I have learned so much in such a short period of time and despite being a fresh graduate have always been treated like any other full-time employee.
Graduate Information Security Engineer
I attended the University of Plymouth, where I studied Computing and Information Security. During my degree I completed an internship at G-Research, which led to my current role as a Graduate Identity and Access Management Analyst.
Our Identity and Access Management (IAM) team is responsible for defining and maintaining the information access model – a crucial part of a business which revolves around information and data.
Both as an intern and a graduate at G-Research I’m continuously given the opportunity to develop and hone my skills as an effective IAM analyst. I chose to return to G-Research after I graduated for a multitude of reasons; the location, lifestyle, the challenge, the innovation…but most importantly, it’s the expertise, professionalism and kind-natured people that meant I didn’t think twice when offered a permanent job.
Security Support Specialist Team Lead
I studied Forensic Computing and Security at Bournemouth University and completed a placement year here at G Research in the Security Operations team. I knew GR had access to a lot interesting and innovative technologies so I was very excited and pleased when I received the internship. After a successful year on placement, I was delighted to be offered a graduate role when I completed my degree.
Being a part of a central support team means you get to learn about multiple areas of the company and see what others teams are involved in. It’s the people here at GR which make it an amazing place to work, everyone is very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. With new technology being developed all the time there’s so many new projects to be involved in and always more to learn.
Operations Analyst Intern
I studied Computer Networks at Sheffield Hallam and when looking for a placement, G-Research really stood out to me as it provided such a wide range of learning opportunities compared to other placements.
During my time at G-Research I have been in two separate IT teams, Technical Support and Infrastructure. Both roles cover vast areas of IT: in Technical Support I provided general first-line support to the entire company and in Infrastructure I managed compute and storage.
The best thing about working here is the community feel. Everyone is so nice and always happy to help, which is definitely aided by being able to chat to people across the business at regular social events like our monthly company drinks.
