Lift Schools is made up of 57 primary, secondary and special schools, educating more than 33,000 pupils across the country. We believe education can transform lives – and we want every child in our schools to achieve their full potential.

Who We Are

Our mission:

  1. We will provide an excellent education to every child, in every classroom, every day.
  2. With excellent leadership and teaching in every school, we will help children go on to lead successful and happy lives.
  3. We will work with others beyond our network to benefit more children and communities.

Every adult in a school has the power to transform lives, and that’s why talented people are essential to us. Our ambition to give every pupil the best start in life relies on our dedicated teachers, teaching assistants, senior leaders, and admin teams. We attract dynamic individuals and provide the space to reimagine what’s possible.

That’s why your career is as important to us as it is to you. We want you to develop, we want you to grow, and we want you to feel valued.

We have a number of in-school vacancies as well as our Teacher Training Programme to provide the very best training and start to your career as a teacher.

Our Teacher Training Programme

Lift Schools Teacher Training is delivered in partnership with Ark Teacher Training. Whether you are looking to become a primary or secondary school teacher, our training year offers the perfect mixture of theory and practice and the very best support, every step of the way.

We offer a classroom-based Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme based in one of our 57 schools. You'll gain a PGCE (Post-Graduate Certificate of Education) and your Qualified Teacher Status(QTS) whilst working hands-on in the classroom as a Trainee Teacher. Immediately having impact, your tutor and coach will support you to build up your independent teaching time during the year.

The Programme Includes

  • School Orientation Experience - A 5-day introductory placement before Summer term ends where you get to know the school, pupils, colleagues, the community and where you’ll be working so you can hit the ground running in September.
  • Summer School : Highly-rated by our trainees as the perfect start to their training and a great way to prepare for their first few weeks in school, our Summer School brings trainees together for two weeks in August to learn about the programme, educational theory, and practice.
  • Weekly coaching and planning sessions : Your in-school coach will observe your progress every week, supporting you by providing constructive feedback and helping you set achievable improvement goals.
  • An allocated mentor: You will be assigned a Tutor from the start of Summer School, an experienced teacher and phase specialist who will visit you in school regularly throughout the year. Tutors are your point of contact throughout the year. They work alongside your Lead and Coach to ensure you progress and receive the correct support in school.
  • Weekly training sessions : Participate in virtual/in-person training sessions with your tutors and peers. These sessions provide valuable learning experiences and encourage a collaborative environment for professional growth.
  • Teaching in a second school : Seeing other schools is crucial to succeeding on your own. Over your first year, you will spend 17 days in different schools, in a completely different context to your own. These schools help you develop as a teacher by showing you how other schools work and what makes yours unique.
  • Wellbeing: A trainee’s wellbeing is paramount to us, so it’ll be an ongoing conversation with your tutor throughout the training year.
  • Your timetable : Your teaching load will gradually increase throughout the year depending on your progress. As well as your lessons, each week will consist of; team-teaching and real-time coaching, Observations of other teachers, coaching, lesson planning & professional or subject studies

The training programme itself is school-based and you will spend half a day every week in a session with your Ark tutor and other trainees from the network.

We will support you to become brilliant educators and in time, leaders within our network - we offer unrivalled career opportunities for professional growth. We're looking for talented people who will have successful careers at Lift Schools.

What qualifications you’ll gain:

Qualified Teacher Status
Once you reach the end of your training year and it has been confirmed that you meet the Teachers’ Standards, you will be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a nationally recognised teaching qualification allowing you to teach in other schools.

PGCE
By training with us, you will also gain your internationally recognised Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). This PGCE also counts as 60 credits towards a Master’s degree – a third of the credits needed for the full qualification.

Graduation
Completing your training year is a huge achievement, and we want you to be able to appreciate and celebrate just how far you’ve come since your very first day.

So, at the end of every year, we hold a graduation event for our trainees to enjoy with each other and their colleagues.

Our Mission and Values

Lift Schools believes an excellent education is an entitlement for every child, and we do everything in our power to ensure that our schools are making that a reality for every pupil in our care.

Our values reflect what we believe is most important in our schools – and what we want our pupils and team members to achieve.

Be unusually brave - We're not afraid to make the right call – and we challenge wrongs, even when it's difficult to do so.

Discover what's possible - We create eureka moments for our pupils, helping them to discover new possibilities and opportunities.

Push the limits - We don’t settle for anything less than excellent – and we won’t allow our pupils to, either.

Be big hearted - We choose to treat each other with kindness, warmth and care. We believe that everybody matters equally.
