It takes ambition, resilience and curiosity to lead the future of our business and those are the qualities we’ll help you to build if you join our Early Careers programmes. Recruitment Process
Applications are now open. Don’t wait too long to apply. Some programmes close early due to high demand.
The process includes:
- Online Assessment: A behavioural assessment (approx. 30-40 minutes) that helps us get to know you – what drives you, how you approach different situations and how this aligns with M&S.
- Job Simulation: A mix of realistic scenario-based questions to give you the opportunity to step into the world of M&S, and to show us how you think, lead and bring our values to life (approx. 45–60 minutes).
- Assessment Centre: This is your opportunity to meet us in-person and show us your potential through a few different assessed exercises. It’s also a chance for you to get an insight into what it’s like to work for M&S, to meet our people and to have some fun!
We’re committed to supporting everyone who needs adjustments throughout the process.
Culture & Values
Our culture is built on behaviours that define how we work, lead and grow together. We’re straightforward, sleeves rolled up and driven by a shared ambition to serve our customers brilliantly.
We stay close to our customers and colleagues, because that’s how we deliver results that matter. We say it, and we do it, taking accountability, making decisions quickly and getting things done. We tell it as it is, listen, learn fast, and move forward with purpose.
We always aim higher, pushing ourselves to innovate, disrupt and do better every day. We’re selfless, putting the success of our teams, our customers and our business ahead of our own, and we spend wise, save well, making smart, sustainable choices that drive long-term growth.
These aren’t just words - they’re the foundation of who we are and how we’ll shape the next era of M&S.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
We are ambitious about the future of retail. We’re disrupting, innovating and leading the industry into a more conscientious, inspiring digital era. We’re transforming how we work together and offering our most exciting opportunities yet. We are committed to building diverse and representative teams, where everyone can bring their whole selves to work and be at their best. We support each other and work together to win together.
If you feel you'd benefit from any support or reasonable adjustments during any stage of the recruitment process, please don’t hesitate to let us know when completing your application. This information will be picked up by our team, so we can try and put steps in place to help you be at your best through this process.
Sustainability
We’re putting sustainability at the heart of everything we do — from how we source products to how we support customers in living well. Our Plan A commitments include:
- Reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2040.
- 100% of packaging to be recyclable by 2025/26.
- Remove 1bn units of plastic packaging by 2027/28.
- Food waste reduced by 50% by 2029/30.
- Promoting reusing, repurposing and recycling through our ‘Another Life’ initiative.
- 100% verified recycled polyester by 2025/26.
We’re serious about our ESG strategy, Plan A, to build a better future for our planet, our customers and our colleagues because there is no Plan B.
Career development
We invest in our people because they drive our success. Our development programmes combine hands-on learning with structured training, coaching and clear progression paths. You’ll be supported to realise your potential, achieve your ambitions and shape your own future.
This is where it starts. Join one of the M&S Early Careers programmes and be part of the movement transforming the future of retail.
