Apprenticeships

Our Apprenticeships are designed to help you learn, achieve and make a difference from the very beginning. Across a range of pathways, you'll gain valuable work experience, industry-recognised qualifications and expert-led training while contributing to projects that connect communities and support the energy transition. It's a chance to develop the skills, confidence and experience to build a career that powers what's next.

• Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) – If you have completed (or completing) your basic education and on track to achieve at least 5 GCSE's, including Maths and English Language (grades A*- C / 4 and above).
• Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4–6) – Offering a compelling alternative to university, this route is available if you've completed further education and hold a Level 3 qualification, such as A-Levels, BTEC or equivalent.

Internships

If you're currently in your penultimate year of a bachelors or undergraduate degree, (and on track to achieve a 2.2 or above), our Internship or Industrial Placement programme may be the perfect opportunity for you.

Whether you're seeking a longer-term Industrial Placement lasting 12 months or a summer internship (8–12 weeks), these programs offer you the opportunity to apply your learning in a real-world environment, take on meaningful work and gain valuable industry experience.

Graduates

If you are in your final year (and on track to achieve a 2:2 or above) or have recently graduated, our Graduate Programmes are designed for ambitious, purpose-driven individuals who want to make a real impact from day one. Whether your interests lie in Engineering, Finance, Data & Digital, Commercial, Project Management, Human Resources or Corporate Affairs, you'll join a programme that combines meaningful work, structured development and early responsibility, helping you grow into the next generation of National Grid leaders

Our hiring process is broken down into 4 steps:

1. Application – This is your time to shine! Apply online for one of our roles. It shouldn’t take you long but make sure to have your education details to hand to speed up the process. Make sure to submit your application as early as possible as we will close roles as soon as they have reached capacity.
2. Online Assessment – Our online assessment covers how you communicate, build relationships and tackle challenges, as well as a short game to assess cognitive and social traits.  You will be invited to complete this after you have submitted your application. It must be completed within 1-2 weeks otherwise we’ll assume you’re not interested and you place will be offered to someone else.
3. Assessment Centre – If you’re successful, you’ll be asked to attend an in-person assessment centre, undertaking activities with other candidates. Details vary by programme, but don’t worry this will be shared in advance.
4. Offers - It’s decision time. Once all assessment centres have taken place, we’ll be ready to update you. If we’re a match, our early careers recruitment team will be in touch to share our next steps for your career.
