About Nomura

Hero image for Nomura

Nomura is an Asia-headquartered financial services group with an integrated global network spanning over 30 countries. By ‘Connecting Markets East & West’, Nomura services the needs of individuals, institutions, corporates and governments through its three business divisions: Retail, Asset Management, and Wholesale (Global Markets and Investment Banking). Founded in 1925, the firm is built on a tradition of disciplined entrepreneurship, serving clients with creative solutions and considered thought leadership.

We offer a range of graduate and internship programmes across three key areas; investment banking, global markets and corporate infrastructure.

Internship opportunities can include a 9 week spring or summer internship in London or a 3-6 month internship in one of our regional offices. Internships are the perfect preparation for a subsequent full time role. Nomura will extend full time offers to strong performers to return to the company the following year.

To apply for an internship position with Nomura in 2022, candidates should be available for full time employment by July 2022 or 2023.

The recruitment process for the graduate programme consists of three first round interviews (two competency interviews and one case study interview) with junior representatives. If you are applying for an internship, you will attend two first round interviews (one competency interview and one case study interview). If successful, the final round interviews for both full-time and internship positions will consist of four competency based interviews with senior representatives.

At Nomura our goal is to attract and develop exceptionally talented people who share our passion for individual excellence and our commitment to teamwork. We recruit graduates with a high level of academic and extra-curricular achievement, who will be able to withstand the rigours of a rapidly changing, demanding but ultimately rewarding environment. Fluency in English is essential and fluency in other languages is advantageous.

We assess candidates using a range of key competencies which include; problem solving, analytical skills, teamwork, leadership, communication skills, professional presence and initiative.  All of these competencies are equally weighted and we look for evidence of these in your CV, cover letter and throughout the interview process.  We will also need to be convinced of your interest and commitment to the financial services industry and to Nomura in particular.

Equality and diversity

Here at Nomura we understand that in order to provide the best service to our clients, we need the best talent. In order to be innovative, productive and best in class, we understand that our workforce must be reflective of the communities in which we operate, as well as a diverse range of experiences, backgrounds and perspectives. That’s why we look to attract, develop and retain a diverse workforce across Nomura and we aim to foster an inclusive culture where people can build their careers, feel a sense of belonging and be respected for the work they do.

Inclusion Networks

Through formal and informal events, participants are able to exchange ideas and receive support on both career and outside of work related topics. By supporting the development of our employee inclusion networks and communities of interest, we are breaking down silos and strengthening relationships across the globe. One of the ways we encourage people to connect with others is through our inclusion networks:

  • Employee Life and Families (ELF)
  • EMBRACE
  • Gender Balance (GBN)
  • Pride

Women’s Development Programmes

In EMEA, Nomura launched a series of development programmes for women, aimed at different levels of seniority within the company. Rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach, Nomura has designed three separate programmes to address the challenges women may face at different stages of their careers and to develop the specific skills:

  • Women’s Sponsorship Programme (MD & ED )
  • 30% Club Cross-Company Mentoring Programme (VP)
  • Female Associate Development Programme (Associate)
  • While each programme has its own objectives, all provide access to senior leaders; opportunities to build networks and to develop tailored skills.
