We developed the Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme with the aim to empower engineering students and graduates from diverse backgrounds.

Who We Are

GEEP is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world engineering experiences, equipping participants with the skills, knowledge and connections needed to excel in their engineering careers.

Through a meticulously crafted curriculum, immersive workshops and mentorship from industry experts, GEEP offers an unparalleled opportunity to enhance your engineering expertise and thrive in the rapidly evolving world of technology.

Since 2015, GEEP has resulted in at least 250 engineering employment opportunities including internships, graduate placements and jobs. On the programme you receive ongoing support through mentoring, work placements/internships and shadowing opportunities. GEEP provides access to tools and resources to support your development and allows you to connect with alumni networks to provide more doorways into the industry.

Benefits

GEEP is structured to provide participants with an immersive learning experience. Through a combination of insight sessions, seminars and hands-on projects you'll gain practical insights and expertise in cutting-edge engineering topics. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect to gain from this transformative journey:

  • Career support - Join skills and competency insight sessions that develop your employability skills. You'll also receive 1:1 career support to identify a clear vision for your career path.
  • On-demand learning - Gain access to a wealth of on-demand learning materials. This includes industry insight sessions and engineering-specific resources to help you continue learning at your own pace.
  • 1:1 mentoring - Build a productive mentoring relationship with an engineering professional who has interests linked to your own. Your mentor will support you as you build your skills and career plan.
  • Networking opportunities - Connect directly with over 20 engineering employers. This will give you access to apply to internships, placements, shadowing opportunities and full-time positions.

Recruitment Process

There's just 3 quick steps in the recruitment process before you could receive an offer:

  • Online application - Fill in a quick application on our website, with just a few questions on your basic details. No long forms or essay questions, just an easy way to get started.
  • Video interview - Record yourself answering questions to show us your passion. Don't worry - You'll have time to practice. To make interviews accessible, where needed we offer calls via phone or teams.
  • Screening and offer - After you've passed your interview, the top candidates will then receive offers to join GEEP. The programme starts in November so get ready to unlock a world of engineering possibilities.

It's that easy.

Go ahead and apply to the programme and have the chance to gain valuable experience from industry experts.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Engineering needs people with different experiences, ideas, and perspectives so that we can respond with the best and most innovative solutions to the problems our world is facing. At the Academy we have put diversity and inclusion at the heart of our strategy.

The Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme (GEEP) is a programme designed to support UK engineering students and recent graduates from under-represented backgrounds into engineering employment.

Diverse perspectives enrich our collective performance. At the Academy, we are working:

  • To foster talent and diversity so that the UK has a world-leading and truly inclusive engineering workforce.
  • With partners to boost the numbers and diversity of those entering engineering careers.

Our programmes and activities aim to catalyse a step change in the diversity of the workforce and the prevalence of inclusive cultures across engineering industry.

We have recently doubled our investment in making the engineering profession more diverse and inclusive. Our Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) action plan for 2020-2025 sets out our goals and objectives. Our D&I activities are overseen by the Academy’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, made up of Fellows and representatives from the engineering community.

To meet our goals we work in partnership with our Fellows, partners, professional engineering institutions, and education institutions. We also partner with key organisations such as the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (AFBE-UK), the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), and InterEngineering (the network for LGBTQ+ engineers) to highlight unheard voices, raise awareness of the barriers faced by minority groups, and to maximise impact.

Personal Development

At GEEP you'll attend workshops, learn skills, build connections and gain practical experiences. Unlock real-world engineering experiences through GEEP's dynamic employer partners. On the programme you'll make connections with these employers and gain access to their opportunities.
