Marketing internships 2025

FAQs:

You’ll usually need to apply for marketing internships online - you can do this is on targetjobs. Here are some things you can also do to improve your chances of finding a marketing internship:

  • Attending any relevant events and careers fairs
  • Networking with marketing professionals on LinkedIn
  • Directly getting in touch with the company you’re interested in

If you don’t have experience, you can still get a marketing internship. Generally, internships are for students who don’t much (or any) experience and is an opportunity for students to gain experience in the sector they want to work in after graduation.

Employers aren’t interested solely in experience, so if you have any relevant qualifications, skills, hobbies/interests or a clear passion for marketing, this could land you the internship.

If you’re invited to a marketing internship interview, you’ll want to make sure you’re well prepared ahead of the interview, you can do this by:

  • Researching the company and role to get clear on what it is they’re looking for
  • Practicing common marketing internship interview questions – you can use our interviews and assessment centre hub to help you practice
  • Preparing for the bits that aren’t related to the questions like the outfit you’ll wear on the day and your journey to the interview (if it’s on a video or telephone, test the device you plan to use ahead of time)

Not all internships require a cover letter, but if the one you’re applying for asks you to submit one, then here are some tips for things to include.

An opening paragraph: note which job you’re applying for, where you saw the advert and why you’re applying.

Why they should choose you: tell the employer why you’re suited to the role, including your skills, qualifications, achievements and experience.

Why you’re interested in the job and organisation: what made you apply and why do you want to work there?

A closing paragraph: Reaffirm your suitability for the role and your enthusiasm about working with the employer. State that you look forward to hearing from them and are happy to provide any further information they need.

See our covering letter tips guide for more.

Once you’ve written it, make sure to double-check for any grammatical errors before you submit it.

What you’d be doing during a marketing internship is dependent on the employer, however, you could expect to carry out tasks like:

  • assisting with any research
  • identifying ways to improve the company’s marketing efforts
  • taking notes during meetings
  • helping to produce and publish content across different platforms

You’ll most likely also spend some time shadowing senior members while they work.
