The BloombergNEF (BNEF) Team:

BNEF is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our European Gas, Power & Carbon team. BNEF is a strategic research provider covering global commodity markets and the disruptive technologies driving the transition to a low-carbon economy. Our expert coverage assesses pathways for the power, transport, industry, buildings and agriculture sectors to adapt to the energy transition. We help commodity trading, corporate strategy, finance and policy professionals navigate change and generate opportunities.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in a numerate subject (minimum 2.2)
  • Well-developed knowledge of Python is a key requirement for this role, with knowledge of language such as VBA, R, Matlab or other statistical computing packages an advantage.
  • Learners must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject (a Level 7 or Masters qualification in a similar field)
  • The successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK by the start of their employment

What we would like to see:

  • Strong understanding of data and statistical methods such as regressions, correlations, coefficient of variation, distributions, chi-square distribution, standard deviations, confidence intervals and time-series analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills, particularly with regard to VBA, macros and functions such as LOOKUPs, pivots, IF statements, Index and Match etc
  • Understanding of the importance of quantitative methods in analysis and decision making
  • Strong ability to critique and question data sources
  • Rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to high quality work
  • Intellectual curiosity with the ability to cut through the noise of data by critically evaluating and interrogating complex datasets and quickly discovering trends and patterns to develop key insights
  • Knowledge of data management and visualization
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, commodities trading and markets is a distinct advantage.
