Placement
The communications placement role sits in Ofwat's communications and engagement team. This team plays a crucial part in the delivery of Ofwat's strategy, working across the business to encourage effective engagement and communication among our own people and with external audiences.
Our placement programme offers a varied, hands-on experience that gives you genuine insight into how a regulator communicates and engages with its stakeholders in public and in private, all supported by high quality training to help you build a strong foundation for your future career.
We're offering two placements: the first will focus on strategic communications, media, brand, digital and design; the second will focus on internal and external engagement and campaigns.
During your time in the communications and engagement team you'll have the opportunity to spend time with:

Our digital, brand and design team, producing eye-catching content for social media and our website;

Our internal engagement team, ensuring Ofwat's people get the information they need

Our media team, landing Ofwat's key messages everywhere from national titles to niche trade publications and prepping for broadcast media;

Our stakeholder engagement team, collaborating with environmental, consumer and water companies right across the sector;

Our marketing team, working on water efficiency behavioural change campaigns;

Our public affairs team, tracking the political conversation and spotting opportunities to make Ofwat's voice heard.
Eligibility - Qualifications
You should have, or be on track to achieve, at least a 2:2 degree in a marketing or communications background (but not limited to) Marketing, Communications, PR, Media, Journalism, English or Law from a UK university.
We also welcome applicants who have completed a Level 3, 4, or 5 apprenticeships in any of the areas listed above, as well as applicants with a relevant postgraduate qualification.
As this is a placement programme, you must either be studying on a degree that includes a sandwich year or be a recent graduate/ apprentice with no more than three years of post-graduation work experience.

Lead Criterion: a good understanding of various communications techniques and the ability to tailor your communications style for different audiences and networks

Great verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely.

Interest, knowledge and awareness of the modern news and media landscape.

Ability to demonstrate effective problem solving, critical thinking, decision making and information processing.
