Programme information

You will join as a trainee as part of the Investment20/20 programme. Our programme will introduce you to the investment management industry and you will gain industry knowledge, experience and develop relationships enabling you to progress your career and provide you with skills to secure a permanent role. During the programme you will have access to relevant training. As part of the Investment20/20 programme, you will have opportunities to meet and network with over 250 trainees across the industry and participate in socials and insight events.

Our trainee programme is a fixed term one year contract paying £26,500 plus benefits. You will receive 27 days annual leave. This role is based in London, is office based, but open for other arrangements.

The Team

You will join a well-established compliance team who are more than happy to integrate you and give you a solid grounding in all things regulation and compliance which will help you in your future career. It is a close-knit team who respect each other and each member of the team will help out their colleagues when needed, with weekly team meetings to share knowledge and workload. The team is headed by Milly Cooper who is the Head of Compliance. Milly is supported by Jo Mann, who is Deputy Head of Compliance and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO). Milly and Jo are supported by Richard, Lizzy, Sabine, Sophie, Effie, Matt and Jasmine. All are based in our London Savoy Court office, except Sabine who covers risk and compliance for our Luxembourg entity. The team interact with departments across the company on a regular basis and individuals have specialisms to help assist on specific queries.

The purpose of the role

The team is split into two specific areas: Advisory and Control Room. Your primary role will sit in the control room, but you will also be trained on tasks across both areas to be able to support the team in various daily, weekly and monthly tasks and administration.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review pre-trade alerts that flag intra-day in our trading system and liaise with the compliance team, fund managers and traders on these as required.
  • Review post-trade reporting in our trading system every morning, working with the compliance team to complete necessary disclosures (e.g. our fund positions in other companies as required by regulation or the takeover panel)
  • Assisting the team to undertake market soundings (where Liontrust receive inside information on companies), ensuring appropriate record keeping and communication internally.
  • Respond to s793 requests (details on our holdings in specific companies)
  • Undertake regular compliance monitoring tasks, e.g. analysis of our gifts and hospitality records
  • Assist, where needed, the Compliance team in compliance monitoring thematic reviews (audit-style reviews of internal departments)
  • Examples of daily, weekly and monthly tasks may include approving staff personal account trading, reviewing marketing material, and review of surveillance alerts (e.g. call monitoring)
